Sorry guys but I have to disagree. Guitars are just tools, and just like any tool they can be replaced. Change is difficult, however, and we tend to agonize over losing what we feel comfortable with. I have gone through many guitars and amps over the years, have had some stolen (a lake placid blue 64 strat at one point) and had to sell a bunch of stuff on account of being laid off about 15 years ago. And life goes on. In many ways I felt liberated by reducing my hoard down to the essentials. With only one guitar now I work harder at the intangible stuff that goes into making music. Would it be nice to have 5 or 10 guitars and 20 amps like I used to? Would it make me a better player? I doubt it, because I focus on making what I do have work better for me rather than stuff. Which is what guitars are essentially - just stuff. If your life is defined by the stuff/guitars you have you may need to rethink your priorities. Or have kids - they will redefine your entire universe in a heartbeat!

You are the voice of the reason ( except for the kids, you can't sell them ).
About feeling a dork :

Why selling my first serious electric guitar (this SG) ? in order to have
an Heritage LP, a custom strat with a floyd & EMG (that i barely play actually), & a Casio synth guitar (which i sold in exchange of my amp repair) and this cheap Korean epiphone which is X tra heavy and now i am tired of......
All this turmoil for looking for something un real. I played this SG during
winter & i realized that was it : balance, weight, neck, .................& tone, & wood . I felt really like you state : better focus on music rather than stuff.

Now about my first electric guitar, a cheap framus , i destroyed her just to see how does it feel to smash amps and i can tell you : if not well done it hurts alot in the arms .

And please gentlemen let's stop to talk about robbery .
Still missing this schecter 24 frets with floyd and silver EMG and this incredible 1963 precision bass, sunburst, with original case and all accessories.

Telefunk , unfortunately i did this while alone in the big loft we used to live in as wouldhavebeen allmanbrosabees (way back in 73). I used an huge italian amp (DAVOLI) to smash it on. The loudspeaker did fine,

If you don't really like a guitar get rid of it, that's how I do it, but jaqueun a ses gouts.

Blob, I share the experience of smashing a Framus in order to find out how it feels and I still remember after 30 years now that I felt like an idiot, like what am I doing here? but still went on with the destroying process once it began.
