Well, against my better judgement I went to the IMAC theater in Huntington Long Island to see Robben last Friday. I say against my better judgement because last time I saw him there it sounded awful, and this time with better seating it sounded worse. It was so bad people were screaming "fix the mix", "turn up the sax player", and "how about a little kick drum."

As far as Robben's playing that night, Loving Cup was mind-blowing, everything else was average, not a bad, not but not stellar. He did a show. I think it's that room. I see Robben often I know when he's on and not. Every musician has on and off nights -it's the nature of the work.

But despite the poor sound, it was great to see Robben again as always.

Dave what was your impression of the IMAC?

Rod

I was at the IMAC show.
I had to leave because the sound was so terrible.
It was all guitar, and NOTHING else.
Don't get me wrong, I love Robben, and I'm a guitarist myself,
but it was terrible.
I've see Robben at the IMAC before, and it was an awesome show (2 years ago).
I spoke w/Michael the proprietor after the show, and he said it was a combination of Robben's stage volume, and Robben's own audio engineer.
Really, I've come to expect great shows, mixed well, and at tolerable volumes at the IMAC, but this was a real shame.
Especially after paying $80 for tickets.

I wanted to add that it was my first time seeing Robben w/o a keyboard player, and it was kinda thin sounding... alot of what he solo's over becomes implicit w/o some harmony underneath him... I was wishing he had that extra piece... also, why the new band? I never saw him play with any of those peoples before... was everyone else unavailable, or is he just going for a 'change'??!!?
