Can anyone recommend a resource to learn how to work on my own guitar? I want to learn to do basic stuff like adjust the action.

If you know of a website, books or anything else, please let me know.

Thanks!

Here are a few that I have used in the past. Warning, if you are not sure about adjusting the truss rod take it to an expert. That last thing that you want to do is break the truss rod. It will be a memorable and costly mistake.

A few tools you will need...

Feeler gauge - Handy for measuring string gap during truss rod adjustment
6 inch machinist scale- for measuring string height
Hex Key that fits the bridge pieces
Required tool (varies by guitar) for adjusting intonation

Here are the sites.

http://www.gibson.com/magazines/amplifier/1997/10/tipfile.html
http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/3612/adjustg.html

Try this search, you will find more than you will want to read

Have fun but be careful.

Go to the Steward MacDonald site http://www.stewmac.com/

There are tons of tools, books. Just reading the functions and descriptions of the tools tells you a lot. If you sign up for the catalogs there are bunches of tips in there.

I bought the Erlewine repair book and found it difficult slogging, but what you need to know is in there. But I built a guitar in the 8th grade and have been messing with them ever since, maybe if you are starting from scratch, the format and presentation of the book works.

If you had GAS before, wait until you get a fret file and a micrometer, you can go nuts Laughing
