Daved, Another silly gear question.

I was listening to Hilary's Soaring again tonight. Were you involved in setting up for that session? It sound's so different. Kind of Inside Story like. Do you know what Robben used? Was the rig miked really differently? I've been playing around with mike placements and would love to know if moving an SM57 from here to there can account for Soaring to Blue Moon. Hey, that sounds like a great song title

Hi Aeolian,

The great engineer, Doug Messenger recorded "Soaring" at his studio in N. Hollywood, Hard Drive Studio. That's also where Robben recorded some vocals for "Supernatural". He would have the info you are looking for. I will try to ask him to give me the details and/or ask him to write some info here at the forum.

Hi Hil,

Great to have you here. I love this album. There isn't enough of this kind of music recorded these days where great musicians are stretching out and PLAYING. I especially love the out solo at the end of Cosmo Sex Quiz (have to love the title too Smile )

I also really dig your playing with Robben's band. So many drummers don't get it, that the song and contributing to the music comes first. You are an inspiraton and an example to show others. "Look, she's using those killer chops to move the song forward, not play subdivded fills all night. But listen and you can hear that she can do those too, when they're appropriate". Must be something in the water in Baltimore. Dennis plays the groove first, and tomorrow I'm playing with your buddy Bryant who does the same thing. Big ears, listening to what others are playing and filling in what fits. Keep on soaring!

Hey Aeolian,

Wow, thanks so much for your kind comments. Thanks also for picking up "Soaring". It was/is my first record and I'm proud of the way it turned out and I was honored to have those great fellows participate in the making of it. I am (hopefully) going to record my second cd by years end. It will probably be different than "Soaring" as I like to experiment and do different things.

I'm glad that you've enjoyed the work with Robben too. I love to play groove stuff probably most of all and the great Dewayne Pate makes it easy. He is truly a great musician and a joy to play with!

We leave for Europe soon and I'm just bustin' with excitement...I can't wait!!!

Take care and I'll look forward to talkin' to ya soon,

Hil
