Hi folks. Finally got some time in the garage with the dovetail template and finished another speaker cabinet. I used this cab at the JJ's gig that I posted a few clips from.
This one is narrower but ddeper than my other 2-12 and matches up with my factory Fuchs head. There are two 15 ohm Celestion 65's. It is solid pine with baltic birch ply baffle and back. The cabinet is dovetail joined at the corners so there are no other blocks or braces to inhibit resonance. The baffle is a "floating" type (mounted on two sides only) which also makes for more complex resonances. On top of that, I covered it in tweed as my feelings are that Tolex dampens the cabinet more. Besides, It kind of looks like the cabinet on the Carlton Last Nite video Wink

Very, very nice cab Aeolian !
I am thinking about making one ( maybe 2 ) 2x12 cab(s) this summer too.
Any advice, drawings , instructions you could share ?

Very nice work, Aeolian!!!! I was going to ask you what kind of speakers you used with your Fuchs...I've got some Celestion Black Shadows that I like and some Vintage 30's. I used the Black Shadows last week and I dug the tone (90W made for Boogie). I'll try the V30's this weekend. This time I'll be using an open backed 2x12. Last week it was a closed 4x12, but I only used 2x12's with the Fuchs...the other 2x12's was for my Marshall 50W (2 amp setup...the Fuchs was DEFINITELY the better amp!!!!).

Cool amp. What was it originally? How did you like the V30's compared to the 90's. I've used both in 1-12's but never had a chance to compare them in 2 by cabs where the 30s would pick up a bit more bottom end.

It was a Fender Twin and a guy in Kansas City had the cabinets made in Florida and shipped to Andy in NJ. Andy said it was a great amp and he can't understand why someone would have it built then part with it for the next best thing....I can understand, but maybe I'm over that GAS thing for a while!!!! I loved the V30's. I didn't play out with it when I had the original (old) EV's in the cabinet, just banged around here at home, so I can't really compare them, but Saturday night it was just KILLING me!!. We played to about 200 to 300 people at an campground on the bay and they were SCREAMING for more....I've never had that happen before...now I understand why bands get back together and go back on the road....it's so freaking EXCITING!!! I took a bow and they screamed!!! What great fun...one woman said I was a "Magical Man"and the bass players wife told me I was "Amazing".....It's a good thing I have a real grasp on my actual talent level as opposed to what people think....could get a swelled head, eh? What I do is really far removed from what guys like Robben can do (at least in my mind, anyway). It just so happens that I've been playing for 39 years and have stumbled on a thing or two. Could have been three or four things if I'd been more diligent, but the world is full of women and alcohol and drugs and I spent a lot of time doing that, too, probably too much time. Anyway, back to the cabinet....I found that the road case stacks up nicely behind it so that the sound stays mostly in front; very useful. The bass player told me to just sell all my other gear, I don't need it anymore....that's nice to hear. I was playing the amp in triode mode with an 8 ohm cabinet (it's a 4 ohm head), with the bright, deep and rock switches ON and the pull pots for mid-boost, tone-defeat and OD OFF. (sometimes I pulled the OD switch out...). There is so much versatility in this amp... It's really too loud for rehearsal though, dang it....I'll find a way...

Oh, yes, when I played it through the 90's they were in the top of a 4x12 cabinet (with no divider) at 4 ohms. I really liked that tone a lot, too. I was also using a 50W Marshall through the other two speakers (300W Carvins) some of the time just to add some fullness (not that I needed it....) I have other 2x12 cabinets, one open, one closed with a port that I can put the 90's in and check it out. The only problem is that the impedence will be different because the 90's are 8ohm speakers and the V30's are 16ohm speakers. Maybe I'll get some 8ohm V30's so I can have an 8ohm 2x12, a 4ohm 2x12 both with V30's and a 4ohm 2x12 with the 90's ... I don't know, there I go again, chasing the tone...........it really IS a disease..
