Number 3 sounds the best, but my wife and kids would hunt me down like a dog.

Number 4 is out - I said "fun" not irritating!

Number 1 - sounds a little too touristy for my taste, although I am always up for some shopping (my son is a big football fan so I may have to find a Netherlands national team jersey for him).

Number 2 has potential, at least after a few beers.

And speaking of beer, any suggestions?

Avoid any Dutch brand, but buy something Scandinavian like Tuborg or beer from Belgium!

Yeah, there are some things you could do depending on what type of guy you are:

1: Buy a book about windmills, wooden shoes and bone China.

2: Put on a white dress, buy a toy machine gun and start running through the tax-free area yelling things in any foreign language from the far east.

3: Take the sub to Amsterdam and stay there for the rest of your life.

4: Find as many Americans as possible and discuss politics. Avoid difficult questions and keep telling everybody how proud you are to be one of them! Watch how time flies!

Laughing Liked 'em all, but number 4 gets my vote

I don't know... I have seen a lot of political threads on other music message boards turn into a "name calling party", that just makes want to avoid them at all costs. In the end, it will cause bitterness and resentment in my opinion.

I'm with you Pierre. For some reason I feel uncomfortable with these political statements. Visiting this board gives me the feeling to be among fellow musicians and enthousiastics, and that's the way I like it. In the Dutch community there is so much discussion about politics and religion that it almost makes me sick. When I'm among close friends or hang out with my band members, we never discuss these things because life is too short. That doesn't mean I don't have an opinion, ......... !

Well, well, gentlemen , as soon as the controversy seemed to be over (everyone back in his corner, no further attempts) , some want to hit their nail hard. I am sorry not to have more knowledge in english , because i would love to do a good post as long as Hilgirl (BtW welcome) & Aeole & you know who you are, just to make sure this "debate" is well understand .
Now for what i know (please correct me if i am WRONG) it seems (i am not quite sure , waiting for confirmation) that according to american constitution , an american citizen CAn't criticize the foreign politic of his government, it's a crime . IF THAT Is true i am sure it would explain (to me) all the fuss going on each time someting like that come over the table.
And to finish (because i can't express all my ideas in a clear & concise way)
as long Nicolas Sarkosy is not President of France , i presume i am still in a Democracy (while i have to pinch me 4 times a day , and i dream at night) and i will express myself freely (trying to be respectful & polite).
Then Music being a political statement (well regarding the kind) it's obvious that Words are not necessary to explain, but i never play and will never play with people who are not feeling the same thing than me , or people who don't want to speak anything about Robben, Amps, Guitars & licks.
Bear in mind that i don't want to hurt or harm anyboy, it's just that i want to make a long story short : if i follow your point you guys not wanting to "talk" i will feel like these guys in this small village in Poland (Hey a community) they were living next to AUSCHWITZ and when asked about they are all amnesic , they never had seen a train nor smelling bad smells................
But hey i told u, i am a HENDRIX fan, we are so lucky to be well fed, white and wealthy we can even afford to waste time on the net instead of practicing guitar. Razz
Telefunk , try Belgium beer , or a Coffee shop . Too bad you didn't tell me,i would have been there
Bluerunner go ahead , aeolian is a teaser. Razz
Elizabeth keep on venting please it smells good. Kirk Thanks for having choose the peace judge attitude.

Yes, you are wrong! The constitution says:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Nowhere does it say, "You're either with us or against us" or "Bring 'em on." If you pay any attention to American news media, I can see why you're confused! Very Happy

That's right Blob, the next time I meet Robben I will ask him about his political colour. If I don't like it I will burn all his records. That's what you mean, right? I choose my friends very carefully, so I don't need to waste the energy to talk about minor matters like politics and religion. Your comparisons cut me to the bone. And YES that hurts.

You see why I do not want to enter this ... we have not even started to get into passionate discussions, yet there are already comparisons made with the Shoah, Auschwitz etc... I can't imagine how it will end up once people get started .
At least, now I know that when my hairdresser wants to talk about politics I will have to answer him otherwise he might call me a nazi or something of the sort .

AH AH AHE , Thanks JohnnyZORRO , let's laugh , that is the ultimate point, like said blue runner or one other guy ( Xcuse i know being snappy is not that cool but hey i have to practice too )let's forget about being mad and let's just be considering all the aspects .
One thing about M.Moore , he always endo(rses the point of view of people who can't speak. Even if one might state he is narcissic and always cutting his movies about the way he wants the movies to speak .

But he poses himself as the ultimate questionner , and you all must know , as Robben's fans what is to state musically .........when you state a question
you should, would, might, have an answer!!!!!!!!!

Therefore ,,,,,,,,,,,, i don't have so much english to go on,

Now , this is especially for my europeans mates, you guys, now complaining how bad you'been hurt by my post , and still choosing to be squirrelish : well i mean : U don't have to wait Hillary Jones saying M.Moore is an idiot to come over this thread to point how bad is this.

So lefty if you can't agree with good sense yes burn it all and SMELL.

And pierre , i love u you're so Frenchy.

Just came back from seeing this movie with my boys. And edited my earlier post where I mentioned a previous career and a person now part of the government. The bit in the movie about the old guy who grumbled in the gym and then had the FBI knocking on his door, spooked me. I worked periphial enough to this stuff to know that some of these guys take themselves pretty seriously and aren't ready to have the post come up on some kind of search and spend a time in jail. Call me a coward if you will Blob, but being here for my kids is more important. I still have the power of my vote, even if it didn't count last time.
BTW, I was in downtown Santa Cruz Friday evening and the line outside the theater there was something. Folks walking up and down the line singing protest songs, Democratic voter registration booth right up front. I felt like I was transported back 35 years. The bit in the movie about getting the Senators to enlist their sons got me thinking about my own 16 year old son being used as cannon fodder, the possibility of reinstatement of the draft, and my own experience of looking at my draft card wondering what I'd do if my number was up.

Another entry in the "beating a dead horse" thread...

Just so the previous cut and paste stuff from Newsweek does not go by unquestioned or unscrutinized, check out this link to the author of the book Moore cites in his movie...

http://www.houseofbush.com/

Looks like he and Newsweek have been going back and forth on this story for some time. Some interesting stuff on this site for anyone who cares to consider more than one side of the story. And I have to say some of the Newsweek claims sounded a bit off to me, just from being around these people and having lived in Texas for many moons.

Couple of other comments, too...

The Draft. This scares the hell out of me, too, for the sake of my kids. To think of the incredible foreign policy mistakes the current admin has committed which may result in a draft makes me ill. Even repubs are shaking their heads over some of these decisions, and believe me there are going to be A LOT of really boring poli sci dissertations written about these decisions! To be fair, the draft needs to take male and female alike, so think carefully about this possibility this Novemeber.

The Edwards experience thing. A lot will be said over the next few months about how "inexperienced" John Edwards is to be VP and in line for the presidency. Total crap and you can take this to the bank. Remember, dubya had only a few years political experience as the governor of Texas - which is basically a figure head job. The real power in Texas is at the Lieutenant Gov's office. Being a US Senator is way more significant, educational, developmental, etc, than being gov of Texas (photo ops and bar-b-ques). Dubya basically had no other experience beyond several failed businesses for which he was bailed out. The taxpayers of Arlington are still paying for his "self-made" fortune from the sale of the Rangers.

The Edwards as lawyer thing. What, there are no Republican lawyers (sarcastic tone, here)? Shazamm, Gomer! How many lawyers are there in the Senate on either side? Look it up. There are as many lawyers in politics, on both sides of the aisle as there are guitar players at Robben Ford concerts - lots, baby!

Wow, Cheney is right - I do feel better! Now I just need to find someone to tell to "go f*** themselves."

TF, thanks for the link. You have to wade though a lot of personal attacks on both sides but some basic facts can be distilled out.

Like Mike (Mr ToneGuru's) said in the Fuch vs. Two Rock thread over on the GearPage, what matters is an informed decision. I think I have an easier time divining the differences in these two amps than sorting though the slanted political rhetoric, but I owe it to myself and everyone else come November to try and make an informed decision.
