Well, I did it. I bought the Baker Jr. Hollowbody California from Black Creek Guitars. It's #356 on the Baker calendar, and 1 of only 9 of this particular model built. In fact, this one is unique among the other 8 in that it's body and neck is tobacco-colored mahogany whereas the others have natural-colored mahogany bodies and Koa laminated necks. So, mine's like it's a two-tone. All, including mine, have Koa tops which, the wood grain is just exquisite. And, it came with the unique Baker orange hardshell case. Originally, this guitar came with a black case, but the person who first bought it, a collector who has over 20 Bakers (my God!), let it go with an orange case. Apparently, Gene Baker switched to orange cases mid-way through 2002 just to be different, and to have a yet another unique ID for his guitars. Before going there, I was going to ask Black Creek if there was any way I could have my guitar in an orange case, and having it already was just awesome. BTW, the guys at Black Creek Guitars are really great. Wasyl is a guitarmeister and tonemeister extraordinaire. I was there for 2 hours, and in that time, I played the guitar, watched Wasyl play it (he's damn good!) through his Two Rock, and watched as put on a new set of strings, and thoroughly go through the guitar (adjust the neck and pick-ups, tighten hardware, and polish), all while showing great patience answering all of my amatuerish questions about the guitar. Thank you, Wasyl!

Anyway, I feel like a kid on Christmas day. I love this guitar! I only wish I had an awesome amp to really hear it's tone, but that will come- one step at a time. I'll post a picture or 2 soon.

Hey one and all I'm alive and doing well. My new company Fine Tuned Instruments LLC is up and running with getting Robben’s first new fiddle being my first priority in tooling up the new shop. This shop will be manned by me, myself and I (I'm cloning myself) for awhile with all instruments being hand built by me. Those interested in getting in on a "RF" model should contact me soon as orders will fill fast now that the flood gates are re-opening.

Many thanks to all of you for keeping an eye and ear open for me as well as dropping me a line now and then with some very cools words of encouragement which helps refuel the Phoenix for its rise from the ashes. I did post a full story on the www.bakerguitars.com website stating why Baker Guitars closed for those who need to know; meanwhile I'm itching badly to start building the next wave of Gene fiddles and see what other improvements and ideas we all come up with.

I'm also writing a monthly article in www.musicianshotline.com which just released the Jan 05 1st edition and the 2nd on its way.

Cant wait to hear what Robben cooks up in the kitchen for the new CD coming our way. Sure would like to catch some of them East Coast Greg Allman shows he's playing. Any reports for those who caught a show?

Good to see you're back, meangene, and that everything is going good.

Check out the Robben Discussion section, topic named Come January, for lots of discussion on the Gregg Allman & Friends tour including several show reviews.

What will be the brand name of your new guitars?

~JohnnyZ~ owner, Baker Jr. California Hollowbody #356 Very Happy

From what I've heard Gene is still putting together his new shop, I don't know if he's starting to build yet. You can bet there will be a new Fine Tuned Instruments "Baker" heading to Robben, though, when guitars start rolling out of the shop.
