Greetings all - nice to see a growing community here.
I finally finished editing some of my shots from Robben's show at the Triple Door in Seattle, earlier this year. You can see them here:

Enjoy - Cheers,

Some really cool photos you've got there and the way you've thumbnailed them as well.

Thanks marinblues. "look inside" to see some of the other great guitar players and musicians that have come through Seattle - a great music town.
Cheers,

Awesome photography. Robbens promotional department should hire you. The timing to capture those expressions. How do you do that without a flash? All my pictures come out blury or with too much contrast. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Thanks, Belltown! Great photos. Robben appears to be wearing the "Yellow Jacket" that wife Anne teased him about when he appeared two years ago in L.A. with her at a Yellowjackets Reunion concert. _________________ - BlueRunner |

Thanks Aeolian - I shoot alot, always work at improving technique, and use good equipment: Canon 10D digital SLR and either a Canon EF 70-200 f2.8 or EF 28-70 f2.8.
I'm usually shooting hand held at a 30th or 45th of a second, wide open, at ISO 1600. Always focus on the face - try to time your shooting to your subjects movements. Take lots of shots (I shoot hundreds in a night) and only show the best.
Finally, there are a number of things that can be done in post-processing (Photoshop) to get the desired look.
Cheers,
Bruce |

Wow, that sharp hand held at 1/30th, you are a pro. I used to work in a camera shop but other than a pocket Canon, haven't messed much with digital photography.
I was curious as usually Robben usually find folks clicking away to be intrusive. You can usually get away with whipping out a small pocket camera and grabbing a couple quick non-flash snaps. But staring at him all night though an SLR will often get you noticed and occasionally reprimanded.
Glad you were able to do it. There are great shots for the archives, and as I said, Robben ought to buy them off you for professional use. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Your pictures are all great! Thanks Belltown.
Now we have the proof that Robben does not always smile... |

I was shooting for a music publication reviewing the show, and had permission to shoot only the first three songs. Nice opportunity, but musicians like Robben, who aren't coreographed, usually get more visually interesting as they play into the set and loosen up.
But I always respect the artist's wishes and play by the rules. I've also learned how to be unobtrusive, stay out of sight lines, shoot on the beat, don't shoot during quiet passages, etc.
Glad you like the pictures. |

Wow, what gorgeous shots. I agree; you should be hired. Yours are some of the best I have seen (and I guess you know that I have seen MANY!) Kudos, and WELCOME to the board!
