It was represented to me as a 1998 Ohne Filter broadcast, with the skateboard king on bass (no boomy sound on my recording, actually very tight), keys (Wurlitzer sounds right, but I tossed my VHS machine and have not converted my tapes to DVD yet), and drums.
However, there were no "Ohne Filter" stage props, etc whatsoever, so I always wondered about this. I had two other Robben OF shows on VHS before the 1993 show was released on DVD, and they both were obvious TV/OF productions.
To A's question, I seem to remember the recording's tempos as being very true to the original CD, and very soulful.
Bad visuals on the motel room. _________________ - Mayer |

The date or even just the year of the broadcast would be helpful as would the identity of the producer or production company and/or the nationality of the original broadcaster (e.g., was this an Ohne Filter show?). Otherwise, the rest of us have no way of knowing what you are gloating about. |
Or maybe you guys should get a hotel room. |
Gloating? Us? Come on...
I'm referring to the Ohne Filter show from 1997 during the Tiger Walk tour. Never officially released to my knowledge but it should be. There is just no end to the groove!
The bass player is Chris Chaney. After piecing together the tidbits in this thread I did some research on him and found:
http://www.musicplayer.com/lounge/setups/chaney.htm
Apparently he plays, or at least did at one time, with Alanis Morissette and Jane's Addiction.
Anyway, this performance overall does cook noticeably faster that the studio recordings.
I'll be taking a pass on the hotel room thing. |

That would be the guy, I remember some mention of Alanis. The keyboard player I saw was not Darian Johnson, he was around on later shows and a real killer. This guy was also young and had light hair. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Sorry people! My apology to all. I just now read the subject line of this thread (God, I feel like such a dope!). So it is an Ohne Filter show. Ah so! I just wanted to be sure I had it. I do. As I recall, the bassist had a pronounced cowlick, but the groove was magnetic. |

Aeolian,
Do you have any idea what that keyboard player's name is? I saw him with Robben at the Coach House in San Juan Capristano. He was very young looking and very blond, but OH could he fly! Everything he played was just so groovy! He also had an amazing propensity for engaging Robben deeper into the groove. He kept his eyes fixed on Robben and followed his every movement and subtle cue, and he seemed so blissful during the entire show. I was so sorry that I didn't catch his name. |

Hi everybody,
The Ohne Filter -Tiger Walk - dvd, Is there a possibillity to get a copy from that ?
In 1997/98 I have read in the tv-guide that a tv-station named " Sud-west" in Germany had broadcast the Tiger Walk show . Unfortunenatly I coudn´t receive that channel in the place I live.
I´m from Holland and Robben has played there many times and I´ve been to his concerts maybe 12 times...not bad for a 29 year old fan. I have made many bootleg-recordings from his shows.
I know that there are many electricguitarheroes in this world, jus a few names:
Mike Stern, Scott Henderson, John Scofield, Steve Luke, Larry Carlton
Frank Gambale, Mike Landau, Dwight Sills, Wayne Krantz ,Dave Fiuzinczki
Hiram Bullock, Allan Holdsworth, Eric Johnson, Carl Verheyen and...many many...more, but nobody is that gifted and musically talented as Robben Ford. I mean he has chord and single-note control, he never plays bullshit...that means that every note he plays, he plays it on purpose and still keeping it funky and exciting! The sound of his guitar is probably the best guitarsound I have ever heard and I have seen all the greatest in the world.
My father has recorded a Miles David gig with Robben in 1986 at the NorthSeaJazz-festival. That tape I still use it as a study for my timing, harmony and musicality.
If you wanna listen to the blues then he´s your man and if wanna have some fusion then he´s your man too!
I´m gonna enjoy the Jing Chi gig at the Paradiso in Amsterdam- Holland coming Oktober.
I will be making recordings so keep in touch with me for some trading or so.
C-ya !
Robben Ford forever !
Lionwool .

I'm sure Robben and Daved will appreciate that. What exactly will you be wearing at the show so they can come over and say hello? |

Hi there, It´s in oktober so I don´t know what I will be wearing that day.
I´am certainly gonna stand somewhere in front of Robben so that I can hear everything clearly and not hear the noise that the audience make during the show. Do you play guitar yourself ? Maybe we can jam sometime.
I´ll see you then.

Hi
I don't want to disturb your discussion about live taping (hasn't it all been said before ?)
....but the Ohne Filter Show from 1988 with Gary Willis is in my opinion better than the Tiger Walk gig. (I didn't know it existed until a couple of weeks ago, I got it off eBay.)
I'll post more details if anyone wants to know.
Cheers
Graeme |

Some forums have something they call a "sticky". A thread that stays at the top no matter what. Maybe Kirk can create one with one of Daved's recent posts about taping and bootleging. That way, folks who are new to the forum will at least know Robben's official position on such things. What they do after that is up to their own concience.
Marin, so close and yet so far. I know with the little one and everything else going on, that it would be tough to do the Elizabeth thing and run all over catching any show remotely in the vicinity. But I bet if you had gone to the Menaggio show, you would have gone over to that pub and ended up sitting in. I would have loved to hear it, and I bet Robben would have dug it too. Oh well, it was a nice dream...
A few years ago, Stanley Jordan decided to pop into a couple of south bay clubs that were running open jams. I was actually boping around that evening and went to both clubs he did, but at exactly opposite times. Classic, "you should have been here". _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Maybe I should clarify my statement a little. I was being a total smartass.
I guess you get a free pass on this one because you're new here but it is generally known on this board that Robben is totally opposed to bootlegging. Daved supports him on this. |
