The clone amp project that I started a while back is finally finished. Had time over the weekend to complete the speaker cabinet and do a little tweaking in the tone stack and reverb circuits.
I will post some clips this week when the wife says I can make some noise. I will also start posting sections of the schematics for those that are interested.
Final tube complement
Clean stage - Telefunken Smooth plate
OD Stage - JJ 12AX7
Reverb 12AT7
PI - Sylvania 12AX7
Outputs - NOS GE 6L6

Haha!! Gary and I have been chatting! We even spoke on the phone... I can't wait to hear the amp!
Gary, did you lower the cathode resistors when you used the lower plate values??

Hi Scott, no I have not changed the cathode resistors yet. I need to run all the voltages in the preamp and overdrive sections to check the bias current. The resistor changes were minimal (200K to 220K and 120K to 150K), if anything the bias current will be a little low and I will have to decrease (I think) the cathode resistors a little.

Gary, try a 3k cathode resistor for the 200k plate and a 1.8k cathode resistor for the 120k plate. Let me know how it sounds different from your setup now. I am curious how you would describe the tone change. Your values are off by 10% and 20% from the "normal" values.

Gary, you told me that you went from 220 to 200 and 150 to 120. Is your quote above backwards?

I think I wrote it backwards in the first email.
The resistore were orignally 200K and 120K in the overdrive section.
I changed those to 220K and 150K. I think I remember you saying that you were using 220K/150K in both the clean and overdrive sections. Thought I would give it a try and see how it worked out, not bad at all. I still need to lower the bright cap, at 250pf it will take your head off. I will try a couple of different values from 100 to 200 pf.
Off the subject, I took the amp to a local Sunday night jam sessions to let other try it and get some input. The lead player (Harry McGraw, who is an outrageous player) for the hosting band turned off his Rivera rig and used the Glaswerks for the rest of the night after playing one song through the amp. He said the tone blew his Rivera away. He has asked me to build the exact same amp for him except using 6V6's for about 20 to 25 watts, just might have build two of them. Might make a great recording amp. How about a 15 watt version with EL84's........ starting to feel a little GAS coming on......

Gary, check out the clip I just posted. That is the same topography but with a Deluxe Reverb style tranny using 2 X 6V6 tubes. I installed 6L6 tubes instead. It is a special 20 watt fuchs. It is a great amp! Switchable from fixed to cathode bias as well!

Nice sounding clip!! I was thinking along the same lines, starting targeting Deluxe reverb transformers this morning. I have to finish a couple of other projects before I build another amp. My wife has asked me when I will renting a warehouse to start storing my "hobbies". She said that I should consider moving into it as well (just kidding).... She did say the other day as she walked by shaking her head "you and your toys!"
