Stuff I've dusted off and been listening to lately :

John McLaughlin..... I love his playing on the first 2 tracks of Miles " On the Corner "...this was recorded 30 years ago and still is on the cutting edge when listened to today. Also " The Inner Mounting Flame " with the Mahvishnu guys.

Jimi Hendrix..... been enjoying the record ( yes vinyl ) with the 4 live versions of Red House.

Robert Fripp......" 3 of a Perfect Pair " and " Discipline " with King Crimson. Tony Levin's bass playing on these albums is worth noting.I also enjoy Robert's collaborations with Brian Eno. These are nice to relax with.

Adrian Belew.... First got turned on to him with his playing on David Bowie's "The Lodger ". I also enjoy his work with Laurie Anderson and the King Crimson group mentioned above.

others listened to in the last month or so :

Doc Watson
Leo Kottke
Carlos Santana
Larry Carlton
Jan Ackerman
Duke Robillard

I've only heard a few clips, but his playing is very pretty and somewhat similar to Robben at times. I believe he lists Robben as one of his influences.

Actually, the only time I have seen Robben in concert, Jean-Marie Ecay was opening for him. He usually plays more in a jazz fusion vein, but when he records under his name that's for blues stuff.
