Hey folks, the Moe's Alley web site is listing under the 'coming soon" section, The Ford Blues Band with Robben Ford. Don't see it posted on Robben's site.
Daved can have more fun with the Loran transmitters in Soquel and Robben's single coils. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Loran transmitters? Was THAT what Buckeroo Banzai was talking about when he stopped in mid set and observed, "Wherever you go ... there you are."??
I'll definitely be keeping a lookout for this one. My next planned trip up to Santa Cruz is the weekend of Nov. 6. PLEASE DBoothMan, don't schedule Robben for that night. Nov. 5 and 7 are perfect. _________________ - BlueRunner |

I rarely go with Robben on these Ford Bros outings, so I won't have to deal with those tx's. Altho, actually, they are nothing compared to the extraneous, shrill, whine we were picking up at the Empire in Sacramento the other night! _________________ B C-ing U!

So, does Robben just take the combo for these? Do you set him up with some simplified rig?
The noise you were fighting with last time was really surprising. I was just guessing about the Loran antennas but I've always wondered about those things as I drive by. My only personal experience of that stage has been with humbuckers but I've seen hundreds of Strat's played there without that kind of noise. Bill, the owner, was Larry Carlton's first road tech and seems to have done things right there. And you had the advantage of the Variac and everything. Some ground must have gotten partially lifted somewhere.
Did you get a new variac after loosing the old one in Europe? I just finally diagnosed some noise in my stereo at home. The power filter that was supposed to be making things quieter had taken one too many surges and was generating noise, leaking some into the ground. As I isolated things I could see there was a ground loop happening which didn't make sense as everything had the same reference point, or so I thought. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Hmmmmm. There's nothing on my calendar for that weekend ... It's on a Saturday night ... It's only about a six hour drive from here ... There should be a cheap room available at the Watsonville Motel 6 ...
I guess I'd better rummage through my stuff to see if I still have my passport and an unexpired blues fan visa for NorCal!
(For those of you who aren't from California, you need to know that there are NorCal/SoCal border stations across the highways at certain points in San Luis Obispo County, Kern County, Inyo County, etc. In order for us SoCal'ers to get into NorCal, we must either have an appropriate visa ... or be bringing back five or six gallons of Feather River water from the California Water Project to put back into "their" river ... or a mountain bike on the top of the car ... or a "Save People's Park" bumper sticker. Then, to gain legal entry back into SoCal, the aforesaid bumper sticker must be replaced by an "Orange County Choppers" advertising sticker [a bumper sticker for In & Out Burgers may also be allowed], and the driver of the car must wear Ray-Bans and have a Randy Newman CD in the car's player. It's all very complicated, and reminds one of those old black & white movies where folks on a train across Europe would have to get up in the middle of the night and rummage around for their papers when the train crossed the "frontier" into another country. [Has this all gone out the window with the E.U.? Too bad. The image had such romantic adventure.])
All of a $15 cover per Moe's web site. How do musicians ever make any money? _________________ - BlueRunner |

So Blue Runner, you are in, and I am sure Aeolian will be, too. What do you say we have a big Ford Fan party at Moe's? Who else is up for this? Captain? C'mon, haven't you been looking for an excuse to come to the Bay area? This could be so much fun.
And what about you other Northern Californians? We could take over the joint with people from this board! (So that's twice we will see him in September, and I have it on rumor that there will be a number three!)

BlueRunner, with your SC connections you are an honorary Northern Californian, any other southlanders who are board members are granted automatic visas for any and all Robben shows. Just like you let us into Ojai and the Baked Potato. I'm with Miss Lizzy, let's take over the joint. I'm off to Asia for a week but when I get back I'll check on advance tickets. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Singapore, Usually they run us through Narita but this time it's Hong Kong. I work for Hitachi though and I know they're going to send me there sometime. I'll have to look you up.
There's a Baker dealer in the basement of a hotel in Singapore. He was closed the last time I was there. Maybe I can find one for less than six grand.
Plus jam nite at the Hard Rock Cafe on Tuesday. Might take my Tele with me to practice. Wonder if anyone there will remember Robben coming though, and recognize the signature on my Tele. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

OK OK. So I have both business business and personal business that I have to take care of up in NorCal some time in the next three months, and I've purchased a ticket (i.e., one ticket -- can't talk the wife into driving up with me), so I'll probably be there.
Re a get-together of RF BBS folks, what's Moe's like for dinner? (The show is advertised as 9:30 p.m. I'm gonna' want food long before that.) Or is there somewhere else in the Santa Cruz area that might be good for food, and then mosey over to Moe's for drinks and music?
Just don't anyone suggest that we identify each other by wearing floppy hats like the one from so long ago in that photo of Robben that one of us is using in his avatar. I'll wear a large bow tie painted to match Buddy Guy's Strat before I'll do something like that. _________________ - BlueRunner |

Moe's just has a simple griddle thing out on the patio. Actually don't know of any places to eat close by other than an Erik's around the corner and a little pizza place called Upper Crust up the street. I usually go to Capitola Village or downtown for good food.
We need to make up some Robben BBS t-shirts (David, another business opportunity ) in lieu of hats. Failing that I have several tour t-shirts (Keep on Running, Tiger Walk, Supernatural, ect...) _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

My better 1/2 and I would love to spend a Sat. in Santa Cruz and end it on out with a blistering Ford Bros. show that nite. We have yet to get to Moe's. If someone could help out with info. as to directions and how to get tix. would be much appriciated. We are in Daly City so we are fairly familliar with the Santa Cruz area.
Thanx |
