Hi guys (& Girls)
Quote: | That's getting into copyright violation. Or to put it another way, Robben doesn't drive a Solid Gold Cadillac (it's actually an older-model Acura sedan) or live in a Great Big Mansion (it's a modest home in a nice neighborhood), so if you have enough money and a choice between (a) someone else passing on info to you, (b) buying a book or DVD on eBay, or (c) buying something new from a dealer who passes the royalties back to Robben, choose (c).
|
Whilst I agree with you completely in principle ! I, for one, am unwilling to pay £16-17 for the next Robben Album. This is the price I would have to pay if I bought it from Virgin or HMV in the UK !
Perhaps Robben should open a Paypal account & whenever I buy a Robben Album or DVD at what I think is a reasonable price, I could send Him a couple of Dollars. Which is probably more than he would get in royalties !!!!

Graeme - try www.tesco.com. You can get CDs from there for just over £13 (VAT and shipping incl) and they have a very good selection of Robben's music.
However, I have to say that I am sick and tired of rip-off Britain. The prices you guys pay in dollars over in the US for guitars, PCs, etc. we pay about the same figure in pounds over here. Not so long ago the BBC's Online News service did a survey comparing the prices of about seven or eight similar articles bought both in the USA and the UK. The Brits ended up paying around £200 pounds more. Add a lousy climate, and is it any wonder we're all a bit wierd over here ... _________________ "Creativeness often consists of merely turning up what is already there. Erm ... well ... I was in Louisiana last year and sampled American beer and - yes, I have to agree with you. And to add insult to injury - my wife and I were in Shreveport on a very hot Sunday and after leaving a very nice Chinese restaurant, I was decidedly parched and needed some liquid refreshment - only to be told that since it was Sunday (and this is Louisiana) you can't buy beer. Whaaaaatttt????!!!!
Thank you for reminding me about English beer - I feel better now. There you go - this board is THERAPEUTIC!!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now where was I? Ah yes, two weeks to payday and £15 left ... _________________ "Creativeness often consists of merely turning up what is already there. Fortunately, not all states are like Louisiana when it comes to buying beer. Although California is seemingly becoming more backwards-assed by the day, at least we can buy beer every day of the week.
Don't let the mass produced, over-hyped, tastes-like-warm-spit beers (yes, I'm looking at you Anheuser Busch, et al) dissuade you from trying some of our country's many fine beers such as Sierra Nevada, Pete's Wicked Ale, or Fat Tire. They'll make you wonder why anybody would drink Bud when they have so many options. |

Yes, I was aware that in the Southern States there would be problems with such "necessary refreshments". Still, it didn't spoil the enjoyment of our trip to the US - we got to see the Mississippi (at Vicksburg) and the plantations along the Cane River south of Natchitoches. Thouroughly enjoyed it!
By the way, I was told that in the States you can't brew beer with an alcohol content greater than 3% Is that true??? _________________ "Creativeness often consists of merely turning up what is already there. Thanks for that reassuring information! So I guess it must have been the Louisiana alcohol laws to blame for the bad beer. What would appear to confirm this is the fact that we had to go to a small "booze shack" outside the town limits (Homer, La) just to buy a bottle of wine ... I'm very glad to hear that you guys are not ALL deprived of a decent beer!!! _________________ "Creativeness often consists of merely turning up what is already there. Hey , the road from north cal to oregon to Washington is paved with a lot of micro breweries doing a LOT of fine beers as good as English and belgian ones .Except the fact they're not done by monks, some are quite strong in degrees...............
I think you might plan kind of pilgrimage starting from Ford Bros Concert in Cal then go way up to seattle and find the holy graal of the new "old schooled" beers.
Speaking about beer .....................

Now that's one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. |

Hi
What happens if the publication is out of print?
Can you post your own transcriptions of Robben's work. |

I don't know if there's any legal issue with it but if you take the time to transcribe it and don't try to profit from it, I don't see any problem with it.
If you want to post your own stuff, I say go for it. I'd love to see what you've got! _________________ "Somebody's got to make some music around here." - Robben Ford |
