Hi folks,
In the new issue of ICE mag (Dylan on the cover), under the blues section, it mentions the new Keb Mo being released this month. One of the tracks is called "Riley B. King" and according to them, "features co-composer Robben Ford". Hmmmm, what's this about?

PS Oh, the same issue talks about the remastered reissue of the first Yellowjackets with some unreleased stuff. Anyone hip on what that is?

Back to Keb' Mo', both Robben and Robert Cray sit in on the album, "Keep it Simple." It's due out in stores tomorrow. I'll be waiting for the doors to open. _________________ - BlueRunner |

Robben's album "The Inside Story" is generally recognized as the "first" Yellowjackets album, featuring Robben, Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip and Ricky Lawson (and produced by Steve Cropper!). It may still be in pressing by Warner's German subsidiary. Well worth it if you can find it. _________________ - BlueRunner |

"The Inside Story" is available these days on CD. I retired my vinyl and got the CD a few months ago. _________________ iamthewalrus

Just picked up my copy of "Keep It Simple." Well worth the price of admission (but then, I'm a big Keb' Mo' fan). Robben co-wrote the cut "Riley B. King," sings background vocals, and gets in about eight bars of solo, following a similarly short solo by Robert Cray. Leaves you wantin' more, which is exactly what a great musician aims for. The whole album is lots of fun, particularly "House in California," a good object lesson for any of you non-Californians thinking about moving here. (Vince Gill and Amy Grant contribute to the vocals, with Sam Bush on mandolin.) The drummer for most of the cuts is Ricky Lawson, Robben's original drummer with the Yellowjackets.
Keb' Mo' is on tour right now. Check out the schedule at www.kebmo.com _________________ - BlueRunner |

I love Keb Mo's new cd
It feels like my favorite pair of jeans...
The music throws it's arms around you -- like a big hug from an old friend. My only criticism is that the cd ends too soon. Like a good concert, you still want more when the 12th track ends.
On "Riley B King", it's interesting to hear Robert Cray and Robben play solos back-to-back. I'm not sure if Keb is playing guitar on this track (Keb's credits are not listed on the liner notes). Does anyone know?
The lyrics on "France", "Shave Yo' Legs", "Riley B King", "House in California" and "I'm Amazing" are... AMAZING !!! This album is beautiful... and comprised mostly of love songs.
The lyrics are printed on the liner notes, but Keb's touching delivery is enough to commit most of the songs to memory ! |

I found this great concert on WFUV.ORG (Fordham University radio station). He played several songs from Keep it Simple and there's also a short interview.
To listen, go to:
http://www.wfuv.org
Select WFUV Audio Archives
Cursor down to Keb' Mo' Live
There are lots of other live recordings also available on this site. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

The remastered Yellow Jackets is great. Robben is all over it in full on fusion glory. It also has 3-4 unreleased demos that are pretty cool.
p.s. I'm new to the board and want to say hi ! _________________ www.davidducharmejones.com |
