I've been looking in for some time and thought i'd better plug in and jam.
Came to Austin via San Francisco via Des Moines, Ia. Play guitar w/ and for various musicians. 2 CS Strats '60 and '62 and a Tele-Strat through a '59 Deluxe or Classic 50 or 30 depending. From the Hellecasters to Shawn Lane and of course Robben Ford , always in search of a good groove and melody. jam on everyone.....

You're from Des Moines, huh? Well I don't hear too many people say that. I was born and raised in Des Moines and I thought I was one of about five people in Iowa that have even heard of Robben. Do you know where the other three are?

Welcome to the board and congratulations on your escape!

Dave, welcome to this board. Nice website you have there, and awesome music. Get copies of your 2 cd's ready to send me. And, great recommendation for the album Personae. Never heard of these guys (Jonas Hellborg, Shawn Lane and Jeff Sipes) before, but judging from sound clips in Amazon, it sounds like a can't miss. Jing Chi fans should take notice...

Dave,

From the NW side I guess. Hoover High School grad then I escaped out here to sunny CA for college.

I got turned on to RF by a Des Moines friend of mine too. Rod Chafffee, excellent guitar player/singer in the area, was a big fan and told me to check him out. Haven't looked back since. Rod was a big influence on me and I used to see him at Julio's and Chequers (sp) downtown at the Hotel Fort Des Moines until he went to Austin and joined Duck Soup. Are they still around?

JC...rod is a very dear friend of mine. he was a big influence on me to. he and i jammed together at julio's once when i was back from cali., then he came out to s.f. for awhile and stayed w/ me. after i moved to austin he came down and was here about a year and played w/ Duck Soup. he's back in des moines now. i guess he's playing more golf than guitar these days. he was the first to get me hip to robben. rod was like a cool older brother and he could play the s**t out of his guitar.

lincoln high here ... go railsplitters -dave

Man, small world huh?

I'd heard Rod went back to DM a few years ago but I'm rarely there. I was so disappointed to hear that he put down his guitar. I'll never forget hanging out with him one afternoon and he told me that he can have a terrible day but when he picks up that guitar and plays all the bad stuff goes away. I still listen to Rod's music today and I love it. I've got several live recordings and demo work he did. Most of it from when he played with Chris Davis and Scott Heatherly. We haven't kept in touch but I sure would love to see him again and hear him play. If you talk to Rod please tell him I said hello.

If you were at Lincoln you might even know my father. He was a driver's ed teacher in the DM school district for 30 years or so.

it is a small world, and getting smaller all the time.

i've got some of rods demos. and i haven't spoken to him in about 4 yrs. i saw sam salimone(sp?) when i was up there last and he hadn't talked to rod in a while himself. whatever he's doing i hope he's happy. what i really liked was "say what you want" he recorded w/ dartanyan. that was like chaffee's motto, "say what u want, i'm not listening anyway"

so your dad is who i have to blame for my bad driving record? ha ha

Hi Dave,
Just to welcome you from here in Austin. I first heard you on a segment on AMN.If i remember correctly there was a Steely Dan tune among others. Then looked up your site and saw you were back with The Rain Ravens. I'll try and make one of those gigs as i really like Andy's songs.
Regards,
Johnny

Hi Bluejack, thanks for the welcome. I'll say hi to Andy for you. I will be in the studio w/ the RR's right after Xmas to record 2 tracks to be included on a RR compilation to be released in April and then we'll be going back to the studio to start a new Album that will be released in Sept. My band is recording right now and we'll see what we can do w/ it after we're done. Some pretty cool stuff going down. Do you play around town? If so shoot me an e-mail and let me know where and when. I should be out again after the 1st soooo check us out. Happy Holidays -Dave

Dave,
I'll be on the lookout for those new recordings. Myself, i haven't played out much lately. After my last litttle acoustic blues trio fizzed out, i took a break. But the new year is here and i'm going to be looking for some playing opportunities.Look forward to meeting you sometime.
Take care,
J

Cool D-J: I know that Austin is a big town ... but let me know if you ever run across a sax player by the name of Richard Fenno (or his drummer son Brendan). I think his current main band is called The Original Recipe Band. We go back a ways.
