|
|
In the 3.5 years I've lived in Austin, I don't ever remember hearing that Robben was playing anywhere in Texas. And I know for sure he hasn't been in Austin -- which is strange since Roscoe Beck (Blue Line bassist) lives here.
Why not??
Last time I saw him live was at The Bottom Line in NYC about 5 or 6 years ago. |

Hi Joe:
Last time he was in Texas, as far as I know, was following the Handful of Blues CD (1995 or so). He actually came through Bryan for a gig and I think he did a couple of other Texas gigs, too at the time. He basically ignores us down here in the southwest, unfortunately. Last time I saw him I was in Berlin! |

My very first gig with Robben was in Tampa, Florida and that is the only "southern" gig I have ever seen Robben do.
As long time Ford fans from the south can tell you, gentlemen, it's not that Robben is ignoring you.
His manager Dal tells me that it's actually because, for some odd reason, Robben's style blues just does not sell well down there, so promoters do not invite him to come play for y'all. Untill a southern promoter offers Robben a gig.... well, there's not much he can do.
Sorry. _________________ B C-ing U!

Hey man,
Robben has played in Sardinia: the last place were people come to play.
We have very very few concerts
Anyway he's not snobbish: I asked him to sign a paper and he said to the security man to go to one side while he was tring to keep me away: that's to be kind
Ciao! |

I saw Robben at Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth in '95 right after Handful of Blues came out. It is still one of the best shows that I've seen him do. Other than that I don't remember hearing about any other shows around Texas. _________________ Bill Chapin

Hey Shades, I was at the same show, and it was incredible- I spent the next three years scanning the papers watching for his return, then gave up.
You may remember- Robben came out with his zipper down- his response when he was told was pro all the way, he turned around, fixed the issue, then turned to the mike and said, "OK, let's see if this sounds any better".
That turned my wife into a fan. She liked his playing, too. _________________ almost 50 and working on my chops- again |

Hi Joe,
I'm in Austin also. I remember seeing Robben 2x since i've lived here. The first time was in Jan. '93 at Liberty Lunch. Shawn Lane opened. Then he was back in Oct. '95 at the Steamboat.Sadly both venues are no longer in existence.Like you said there haven't been any appearances since. But of course, it'd be great!
See ya around,
Johnny |

Robben and Dal would very much like to see Robben welcomed back into the south. The recent show in Santa Fe was an attempt to try and break down the wall that has kept him out. Let's see how the southern promoters repond. _________________ B C-ing U!

Daved,
That reminds me, how was that Santa Fe show? I would have been there, but had to play for a friend's sister's wedding. What did we miss?? How many people got to enjoy his performance? How well was the group received, etc...
Thanks in advance for a reply.
Regards,
