Any DVD recommendations?
I am a big live music lover, I see about 30 to 40 shows a year. I have a decent set up for viewing Concert DVD's in my house.
Joni Mitchell's "Refuge of the roads", this is a great concert from 1982, just re-released. Landau is all over it, and Vinnie C. is young, funny and great. The songs and lyrics and playing are very inspirational.
Dream Theater's new Live DVD is mind blowing. If you like Steve Vai's Live one you may like this one.
Steve Morse DVD the dregs show is not mixed great, but the playing and songs are great. It is worth seeing.
Primus DVD, this is probably $350,000+ of production for these videos, Live stuff too for $16.
I have lots of others, I would like to hear your recommendations.
Thanks

Depends on what you like!
My best DVD's at the moment are Eric Clapton Live in Hyde Park and the latest Red Hot Chilli Pepper's Live At Swans Castle! _________________ "Don't play what's there, play what's not there" Miles Davis |

Before I saw the new Dream Theater live dvd mentioned, I was going to recommend Metropolis 2000: Scenes From New York, but I'm guessing you've probably seen it already.
PBS' Soundstage is currently airing Yes' new dvd (available in December) called Songs From Tsongas. I saw this 35th anniversary show live from the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA at the beginning of the summer, and it was a Yes fan's dream.

True story;
I did not know very much about Dream Theater, and I went into LA to see The Dregs open for them. I made the trip to see The Dregs play 6 to 8 songs. It was about 4+ years ago it was the "Scenes from a memory" tour, after that show I have been a DT fan. I have the 2000 DVD, and this new one is better.
I have scene Yes a few times, I am a Trevor Rabin fan. I will look out for that show I know it wont be TR, but to see them perform all those great songs would be a treat.
Thanks

My first Dream Theater concert a couple of years ago (Six Degrees ... ), I had a seat in the 5th row. Big mistake- it was painfully loud. Saw them last Spring, I had last row balcony (Orpheum Theater, Boston), and thoroughly enjoyed the show... _________________ Soul on Eleven |

Very cool, I have seen them a few times. I have a bag of cotton in my car that I keep for shows like this. I just put a small piece in my ears, if I don't my ears are thrashed after the 3rd song.

Anything from these guys. I got to sit in their studio yesterday listening to some of the catalog items and stuff they're working on. Where else are you going to get an audience point-of-view audio mix AND an on-stage with the musicians point-of-view audio mix? Extraordinary in every way. AIX is planning to do upcoming projects in HD.

The Austin City Limits tv show is starting to make dvd's available of their concert series. According to http://www.austincitylimitsdvd.com/ the 1st 4 titles are available today. The artists are The Flatlanders, Robert Earl Keen, Steve Earle, and Susan Tedeschi. They are also releasing these shows as music-only cd's which is how I found about this whole thing- I bought the Steve Earl "live from austin tx" cd today from a record store and I can't wait to hear it...

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Way, way too much country for my taste... _________________ Soul on Eleven |

|
|
I watched the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival DVD this week. The festival took place at the Cotton Bowl (Dallas) in June. There's some great video & recordings of EC, BB King, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Robert Randolph and James Taylor. There's also songs by Larry Carlton, John McLaughlin, Johnny Lang, Joe Walsh, John Mayer, Carlos Santana, Doyle Bramhall II, David Hidalgo, JJ Cale and ZZ Top.
There were a lot of artists that played the festival but didn't make it onto the DVD. I would've liked to see more from Robert Lockwood Jr. and Hubert Sumlin. Overall, it's a well produced DVD.... but it would've been a lot more fun to go to the festival in person. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

I watched both DVDs last week and decided I had to own it. I have to confess a certain fondness for the Steve Vai clip - talk about guilty pleasures! It is thoroughly hilarious. And, closing the show, that little band from Texas, ZZ Top playing La Grange and Tush. Lots of good stuff on these two DVDs and I hope they're holding back stuff because the want to release more performances at a later date.
Cheers, _________________ iamthewalrus
