|
|
There was some discussion here about Weber speakers a while back, just wondering how many use/have used them and any feedback.
I'm thinking of the Ceramic 1265 (just one) for a 1x12 cab I'm building.
We're a bit starved for good commercial guitar speakers here - just the run of the mill Celestions and basic Eminence stuff. Also expensive to import them but have found a local distributor for Weber who are able to import in bulk and therefore sell at a decent price.
My alternative is to return to using the Mesa/Celestion "Black Shadow" speakers which I've always used in the past. I've used these in closed-back 2x12's (WOOF!) so will probably get them to open up a bit in this new cab which will be a 3/4 closed back back 1X12. Just looking for something a bit different though this time.

I think Scott L tried a Weber 65 and posting something awhile back. But he's been too busy doing amplified design to post much about speakers lately There's probably some clips of the Weber on his site. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Kirk/Aeolian,
many thanks! Will probably go with the ceramic version of the 65 - the AlNiCo sounds pretty good but my poweramp (KittyHawk - EL34's) will already soak up a bit of the punch, so would prefer the more open sound of the ceramic.
Fortunately, we've got a small local company who imports Weber speakers as well as other useful stuff like Tolex and various types of grille cloth. Should have some fun with this one.
Otherwise, as far as Eminence goes we only get the basic speakers here (no Tonkers!) and speakers are relatively expensive to freight in from the USA as one-offs. We get all the run-of-the-mill Celestions too but these come in about the same price as the Webers.

Pierre,
can you let me know where your speakers are advertised? I haven't purchased the Weber yet so may be interested. Mainly interested in whether they're 8ohm or not, also whether the shipping would get to my area of the world! It sounds like a pretty good deal at that price.
Many thanks - Chris _________________ because I rock, and that's important. |

Unless they've been reconed, I've yet to see a C65 that isn't 15 ohms. I just replaced the OT in my Deluxe with Allen iron and it won't drive 15 ohms. So the spare set I was keeping are now surplus as well.
So, on the block is this cabinet with two of them.
And two more raw frames that I would sell for the same price Kirk paid.
Ordered a Red Fang for the DR. It sounds awesome with a G12H. See how it goes with the AlNiCo. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Pierre,
many thanks - just missed out!
If they're 15ohm probably no good for me anyway - the OT's in my KittyHawk power amp only drive 4/8 ohm and I'm looking to use 1x12 boxes these days (space limitations). So I can't even find a happy home for Aeolian's speakers either though I could probably drive them in parallel happily at 7.5 (prefer them running in stereo ).
Will order my Weber today and see how that goes.

Thats a common term for a speaker by itself. Raw frame means that it's the speaker in its frame as opposed to within some sort of speaker system (raw frame driver [driver is a more specific term] and enclosure [cabinet]). Whew! That's a lot of parathetical subsets! _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.
