I had a chance to escape to FLA for the weekend, where my brother, the self-admitted Gatton freak, turned me on to a bit of this:

Is that the same recording as the one they used to call "the humbler"? _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

...this is "The Humbler:"
http://www.dannygatton.com/Discography/humbler.html
which I believe was recorded at a 1981 gig.
The "In Concert 9/9/94" was recorded less than a month before Gatton's death, so is most likely his last recording.
The opening tune, Sunnymoon for Two, features Gatton playing the baritone side of his custom double-neck, with a very fusiony, chorus-laden tone, ripping off bebopish, Coltrane-esque lines with dizzying speed, supported by Previti's endless cascade of running eighth notes on the upright...one of the most impressive jazz guitar recordings I have ever heard.
It's not your typical "rockabilly" Gatton.
Gatton also shows off his jazz chops on the CD "Relentless" recorded with Joey DeFrancesco, and on the Blue Note CD, "New York Stories."
These and other Gatton recordings are available at www.dannygatton.com.

Cool. I heard that Gatton DeFrancesco thing on the radio once and it floored me. But I've never been able to find it. I remember it was on Muse Records but didn't have a title. Thanks. You never know when something on this board is going to drop a last piece of a puzzle in place. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

...the "Relentless" release is in Al Kooper's top 100.
He said whenever he gets a swelled head after a hot gig with Vivino, he puts on "Relentless" to bring him back to earth!
Blindfold Test:
My sis and I drove from Jacksonville to Gainesville to visit, listening to JohnnyA's "Get Inside" the whole way; sis was very impressed with JohnnyA, agreeing that he sounds a lot like Gatton.
Later with bro, we turn on JohnnyA, and he's like, "yeah, he's pretty good." Then bro pops in Gatton's 9/9/94, and it's other-worldly...poor JohnnyA simply pales in comparison, and I LOVE JohnnyA!!!
"The Humbler" strikes even from beyond.
