Great idea blob!!! Why didn't I think of that! Thats quite simply innovative on your part, or is it????!!!

Well actually Blob, we would only be doing something respective to what Dunble has already done (to some degree). In otherwords fool our audience, or at least those who can't really tell the difference between the two amps.

Where's the innovation with the Dunble? There is none what so ever. Infact this type of plagarism may be detrimental to the innovator, so therefore, I have to disagree and say that this type of thing is wrong.

The Dunble is simply a product which has a tounge in cheek dig at Alexander's product, while trying to make a pound/buck or two in the process. How many times have you seen this type of thing before?

Cheer's,

DD

Hi DDUde You do know how to tease me : this morning i replied then : Nothing ,Nada , Rien, Nib, Peau de balle . So i said : It's magic , The gods don't want me to reply. Razz
Then the Devil in me just get awake :

So here we are (as far i can remember) : As long nobody tried it , how can we judge it's a real rip off????
Needless to say i've read all the threads about this very very very "HOT" subject ( Way more HOT than.....mmmm.......let's say National Elections , oops wait a minut : no pun intended !!!).
Ok Fooch and TOOroock have done a plenty of great job by their own but they still maintain a subtle (subtil) Haze about the "if u wanna Larry or Roby sound" SYNDROMA.
Not a lot of people can afford a 3 OOOŁ or $ or €. I was way more glad to find my Seymour at 500 . And for a good while HE SOUNDED GREAT, and still but the flaming youth is no more there.

And to finish Diatonic Dude i'll let you know that i remove all the brands from my gear , i remove even the red tab on my trousers, so i'm not gonna have a problem with the N or the m , as long i can get the HOWIE VIBE. (which is totally futile by the way, we all know Robben will make a Yamaha sing like a Crazy dumble -it's all in your mind babe-)

Interesting company, I thought the "I liked the soldering" comment was directed at the picture on the amp repair page. Smile

Very interesting on the refret page in the before and after pictures how the strat went from a maple finger board to slab rosewood, just by changing the frets Very Happy

Back to the Dunble/Dumble thread, and Marin's questions about my experience playing through Robben's amp at the clinic.

Dude, other than the standby switch, I didn't touch it. Just plugged in and tried not to wet my pants sitting right across from the man.

Of course, you can't play the guitar without trying to make it sound decent (at least I usually try to). Especially when the only other sound in the room is Robben playing the exact same chords.

The first impression I came away with was another level of respect for Robben's hands and ears. Here he was casually sitting there showing me chord substitutions and I was doing everything I could to make mine sound decent, both of us finger picking the chords "piano" style. I was sort of reminded of playing through the Matchless my friend Wedemeyer used on Musslewhite tours. Not very easy to play though, but these guys use this "resistance" if you will, to get more expressive music out of their rigs. It's like if you look at their guitars, you see great big frets and high actions that would kill our fingers. But in their hands, they have a wider range of available tones. This was why I suggested the Tonker speakers. They are very difficult for me to play though, but I love the range of expressiveness they add. It's interesting that Robben found them "unforgiving" in Bill's show review. My thought was that while they definitely are unforgiving, Robben would use those amazing hands to take advantage of it and really put the music out there. Sounds like from Bill's side of the stage, that's what happened.

So the amp, seems to me to be a real pro musicians amp. Something that Robben or Larry could use to really wring the most out of. Remember, these guys are not sweep picking, or shredding, or anything that would benefit from using a tonally neutral or compressing amp. Timbral and dynamic responsiveness is the premium for their style of music.

This isn't to say that only "real" players can play these amps, or that lots of great players don't want something different from their rigs. I don't want to imply that folks who use "easier" amps are any less of musicians. Only that they have different priorities.

All that said, in my limited experience, from a factor of timbral responsiveness, more responsive being more difficult to play though, I would rank the Dumble most difficult, followed by the Fuchs, then the TR non-reverb Custom, and the TR Emerald and Opal as easiest. This is strictly from a consistancy of timbre standpoint. That is, the timbral character of the note stays more consistent with the "easier" amps, while with the Dumble, you have to have the tone production spot on to make two notes sound the same. All of these amps are very articulate and dynamically responsive. Any flubbed notes will jump right out of any of them, so in that respect, they are all sort of difficult to play through.

On the other hand...

I'm comfortable playing through almost any amp. I can adjust my approach to get as much as I can from it. I've played a Dumble like Robben's, and I didn't find it any more or less difficult to play than any other amp. Of course, I didn't sound anything at all like Robben, but I didn't find that the amp was any more or less forgiving than any other.

Some amps I can connect with more easily than others, but, a little tweaking here and there, and/or a boost or compression pedal added in front, solves most problems I might encounter in getting a sound that I can work with. Of course, I have my druthers, but I'd druther not mortgage the house to buy an amp that can only get me 10% further than any other amp. If I need to approximate Robben's tone, I can get close enough (very close to my clay ears) with an evil Twin and a compression pedal.

There's a reason (beyond the obvious) that I don't sound anything like Robben when I play through a Dumble - It ain't the amp.

Question that is the question...first,your either in the amp business or not and that is the choice of the man himself....I have owned serveral of dumble amps combos and heads and have been in contact with people that have ordered direct years ago...and in EVERY case there were ongonig problems from putting up a deposit and taking delivery years down the road ect. ect.
on the other front this is america the beautiful...and everyone has the right to produce...and follow the law in doing so...you can compare anything to anything"sounds like a dumble"so alexender or anyone else should not have a problem...start making amp sell them and continue fair trade....
RF on the other hand can play out of a dumble or a shumble and it will not make much of a difference...I saw RF do a clinic with the yamaha people playing through solid state in stereo and it sounded great....RF has been quoted "if you can get a dumble use a fender twin" sooooooooo!
he has also been quoted "there are many great guitars on the market" he has changed from gibson to fender to baker to a LP ...now... so you can do your best to acheive the sound many ways..start with training your ear and practice....be an artist !

In purple plush too. Very Happy

Not really a clone though so maybe it'll skate through the e-bay police. Wonder if they even know about HAD? Or just a cute sounding word to them. Maybe they're LOR fans.
