Is the JD for Jerry Donahue? The pickup wiring on this ASAT is similar to that on the Fender JD model. This is one nice looking guitar. Maybe I can convince Mrs. Telefunk to wrap one up for me under the tree... |

I am not a maple neck lover, but G&L makes some real nice guitars. My favourite are the ASAT deluxe and the ASAT Hollowbody.

Hey telefunk1 -
Folks on the G&L board say that Donahue had a pending deal to endorse this ax, but the deal fell through.
The Duncan APTL-3JD IS endorsed by Donahue...I'm guessing that the JD-5 nomenclature refers to the pickup and the 5-position switch...since they can't put Donahue's name on it.
All the pics I have seen of Donahue show him playing maple fretboards...hence no option on the JD-5?
Anyway, I agree, it's a very sweet looking ax!!!

Speaking of Jerry Donahue, anyone know what happened to the Fender Japan Donahue signature models? I remember reading all kinds of good things about them, but even though I live in Japan, I don't think I ever saw one. |

Hey Marin,
Go to the axe pictured and click the back button, then look at the Classic Bluesboy and Classic Bluesboy Hollow. Those are two rosewood necks that I could live with.

Uncle - there was an MIJ JD tele on e-bay recently that I was watching. Metallic blue, maple neck, 3 p/u. Very cool looking guitar. I think it went for around 650? The seller described it as "rare" whatever that means... |

Dear TeleFunk & Andy
From the info I got on this site, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/johnblackman/salee.htm
it looks like the JD was only made for export - hence, I've never seen one here. It looks nice and sounds like a great combination of Strat & Tele. Guess I'll check e-bay.
Cheers

I prefer the classic styling of a tele myself. The overly rounded upper bout is not my cup of tea. It sounds like an interesting electronics set-up, though. |
