I think Robben originally recorded this with a Strat. The first TG show I saw he pulled one out just for this song.
Just found an old tape a friend made of me playing this song. The tape ran out at the end of the head. Really noisy tape, from the side of the club with folks talking, but I cleaned it up as best I could.
Gear is my 335 though a Mesa MkIII and a 2-12 Boogie cab loaded with EV's. No 2290 but there is an Alesis Nanoverb in the loop. Funny thing is I had my Fender Elite sitting there but played this on the 335.
Besides the noisy patrons, other folks on this song are Myron Dove who played bass on the Tiger Walk tours with Robben, and Bryant Mills from Hooker's band. So much fun to play this song with these guys.

great playing as usual, but how did you get that sound out of the Mk3?
I hope saying "it's in the hands" doesn't sound arrogant, but I bet if Robben had walked in and grabbed the guitar, it would have really sounded like the song. Standing next to his bass player will get you into the mood as well. This does kind of make a point about gear being less relevant, as long as it's decent stuff.
BTW, the MkIII isn't that bad. You should have heard Wedemeyer in the next set (that's him yacking at the beginning of the tape) playing Brush With The Blues though essentially the same set up. With his hands, it was magic.
So preceding someone like that, and will a rhythm section like that, I was in way over my head, but having fun trying to channel the song with whatever success I managed. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.
