Daved,

I attended Robben's last workshop and he indicated that he had put Burstbucker pickups in his late 90's Les Paul. What types of burstbuckers are in that guitar? I found 4 different models on various web sites, burstbucker 1, 2, 3 and the pro model. What model is in the neck and bridge positions? Thanks in advance for any info you can offer.

Wayne

Daved,
If you're taking time for pickup questions I'd like to get the low down on Robben's brief experiment with mini-humbuckers. Which models did you guys try/like and what were your conclusions about minis in general? THANKS!

Those were in the Baker ax that Robben had briefly while in the studio recording the KOR CD.
He enjoyed it while he had it and actually used it on a couple tunes (tho I honestly don't remember which songs those were).
As for which models, I never took it apart so I really don't know. However, if Gene is out there watching this board, as he occasionally does, he might be able to shed some light on them for you.

The pickups were actually modified to 4 wire leads for coil splitting and installed for us by Jim Foote at Musiworks in L.A., so there was some brief confusion on my part about which ones actually went into the LP when they were discussed here on this board a few months ago.

I've double checked again and, since I have Burstbucker #1 sitting here on my desk next to me, I can accurately confirm that #2 and #3 are the ones that are installed.

Thanks Daved! I had been toying with converting the PRS Soapbar that I have to use mini-buckers and when I saw Robben on the Kimmel show with that guitar it prompted me to go ahead. Project was a huge success and the guitar is very cool. There aren't a lot of mini replacements on the market so I basically flipped a coin and installed the DiMarzios so I'm always looking for feedback on the other types. I also like the pic of Robben with that guitar which is on Duncan's website which prompts another question..."How does he walk in those shoes?". They always fly off of my feet when I try them. :-)
