Hello to everyone! Just discovered this site a few days ago when I ran a search on Robben. read a few of the posts and knew I had to join in on the fun.
I've been a fan of Robbens since the middle 70's, got word about him around the time he was with Tom Scott and the LA Express when they were doing a tour as Joni Mitchells' back up band. His tour with George Harrison had also caught my ear: being avid fans of both artists I knew if Robben was good enough for them that I would like his playing , and of course I did. I've continued to follow his career through the years and his playing and singing just gets better and better.
Yes, I'm a guitar player, as most likely many who frequent this site are. I started playing in High School in the late 60's and by 71 had moved to Southern California to follow my dreams of making it BIG. HA HA ! Ended up in Vegas and made that my home untill returning to Ohio in 1992 where we've remained.
I haven't had time to peruse all the posts yet, but I know there's going to be a lot of interesting information for me to catch up on.
I would appreciate a heads up if one of you would clue me in on the dates and venues close to me where Gregg Allman and friends will be appearing. I live in Dayton, Ohio...approx.60miles north of Cincy.
Thanks for having me ........ Then Play On

JonyB: Welcome aboard! Fond memories of SW Ohio at this end. I went to Antioch College for two years (1967-69), and flew in and out of Dayton a few times. Among the things I remember most: Seeing the Grateful Dead in a gym at Wittenburg College. Not exactly a Dead venue, but fun nonetheless. (For those on the BBS that don't know, Wittenburg was/is a Bible college. So while the students actually dug the Dead, they all showed up in white shirts with ties for the guys, and 1950's dresses for the gals.) Also liked the little town of Husted, and it's annual Hog Call. I avoided Xenia, though. It had a mobilehome park that acted as a gigantic cosmic magnet for tornadoes. Worked late Saturday nights on WYSO, doing a jazz show. In those days we were crammed in a little control room/studio with egg cartons on the wall for soundproofing -- and the FM transmitter sitting in the middle of our phone-both lobby and office, with the finals heating the place up to about 150 degrees. Haven't been back in years, but understand that these days WYSO is a fancy-pants NPR station. _________________ - BlueRunner

Thanks for the welcome BlueRunner ! Ah Yes, the late 60's ! What fun times I do remember indeed. I used to drive up to Yellow Springs and go hiking at Glen Helen or John Bryon Parks quite often; and there was so much live music going on then; always bands in the parks and free concerts. I remember seeing "Poco" one summer in Yellow Springs put on a free show because it was Richie Furays' home town.
Antioch is still a very small Liberal Arts College and Yellow Springs hasn't changed much at all in 40 yrs that I can see. The village council has been able to limit growth and it's almost like stepping in a time machine back to the 60s whenever I happen to visit there now.
WYSO HAS gone through some major changes with many of the volunteer hosted programs removed and syndicated programs such as "World Cafe" replacing them. {Not that 'World Cafe " is all that bad though}
If you have the time some Sunday, visit WYSO.org on your computer and give a listen to "Shakin Daves' Hall of Fame blues Show" from 2 to 4 PM .
He plays a great selection of Blues, Jazz and old school R+B; He's been hosting the show for years and is a great Ambassador for the blues.
I noticed you live in Santa Paula; I 've been through there many times on the way to Ventura. When I lived in Vegas I would trek to Ventura at least once a year just for some R+R, I love that area of CA.
Well I've babbled enough for now, can't wait to see RF with GA in a few weeks ! _________________ Then Play On...
