Hi All, my first post on the forum.
I've only recently got into Robben's music but have quickly snapped up the Playin' The Blues and The Blues And Beyond DVDs which are superb. The jazzy chords are mostly new to my playing and are making even my simple blues efforts sound much more interesting.
I got the Live in San Francisco CD this week and the track that has struck me the most is Robben's Worried Life Blues. However, the chord sequence over the verses is eluding me (the solo part is back to standard 12 bar right?) - can anyone tell me what these lush chords in each verse are?
TIA |

Welcome aboard, Andy_W. Sorry I can't help you with the chords (I'm the original Mr. Tin Ear), but there are a goodly number of folks on this BBS who have most of Robben's material nailed.
Hope to see plenty more posts from you. In the meantime, have you received your invitation to the Big Wedding in April yet? _________________ - BlueRunner |

not sure exactly but I took a shot at it a couple of years ago and got close:
The I-VI-II-V turnaround is something like...
Chords: C7..................A7+..............G#7+9.............G7+
string 1: 8---------------- 5----------------4----------------3
string 2: 5---------------- 6----------------6----------------4
string 3: 7---------------- 6----------------5----------------4
string 4: 8---------------- 5----------------6----------------3
Please correct me someone because I'm slightly off. THanks.

Just out of curiousity, what live in SF CD has Worried Life Blues on it? _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

That CD actually contains the audio portion of the Robben Ford and The Blue Line In Concert Ohne Filter DVD, if memory serves me right. And it is from '93, I believe. The CD is mislabled, probably because it is an illegal bootleg. |

Hi,
I took a listen too and came up with these voicings for the vocal verses...
Worried life blues by Robben Ford
Intro:
Lead Pick up to
D7 | G7 | D7 | A7
Verse:
D7 | D7 | D7 | D7
G7 | G7 | G7 |G7 (G7 arp line on 3rd bar of G7)
Eb9 D7#9 | Bb13/B | Bb13 9 | A7#5#9
D7 | G7 | D7 | A7
voicings for the above:
Eb9 D7#9 Bb13b9/B Bb913 A7#5#9
-------------------------------8------8-
-6-----6-----------8---------8------6-
-6-----5-----------7---------7------6-
-5-----4-----------6---------6------5-
-6-----5--------------------------------
--------------------7---------6------5-

That's great, thanks for the replies guys. The version I'm listening to is in C# so translating your ideas one fret either way has got me really close. Eddie, I think yours is the one for me, if that's not it it's real close. Certainly good enough for my purposes!
Incidentally, the CD I have I picked up in a large (part of a chain) CD store in Holland and is also available on Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000024W7M/qid=1108317517/ref=pd_ka_3/026-0630322-1155665) so I don't believe is a bootleg. I have ordered the Ohne Filter DVD though which has the same set list. Looking forward to seeing more of the man in action.
Thanks again guys, catch you later.

There's a reason its the same set list - its because it is the same concert. That CD first showed up many years ago and was quickly determined to be the audio to that particular Ohne Filter concert.
So, technically speaking, its pretty much a bootleg. I suppose once you know that the audio came from an Ohne Filter show but the CD is called Live in San Francisco, that kinda gives it away too. |
