Great to have Robbens' discussion board up and running again. Much thanks go out to the Captain for his hard work in restoring the site !! Very Happy

Saw Johnny A last night {SATURDAY , March 19th} here in Dayton, Ohio at Canal Street Tavern. An enthusiastic bunch of probably less than 100 fans were treated to quite a show. It was my first time seeing Johnny perform, so I didn't know what to expect. I bought his 1st CD some time ago and have enjoyed many listenings to his renditions of diverse covers and inventive originals.
Johnny came out with 3 of his signature model Gibsons and plugged into a pedal board with 5 or 6 stomp boxes linked to a couple of small Marshall combos. The Marshalls appeared to be recent models but I couldn't get close enough to make out the model.
Johnny opened with numbers from his latest CD , I believe is entitled "Get Inside" although I'm not sure about that title. He only played one guitar the entire evening ; a black, Gibson Johnny A model {of course} with gold hardware and Bigsby vibrato unit. His clean tones were rich and articulate, ranging from almost Tele ish to warm complex front pickup jazz box ish; while his overdriven tones were mild, smooth Marshall overdrive .
Johnny was quite amiable and chatted with his audience in between songs several times and appeared to be enjoying himself. His accompanying rhythm section were on top of their game last nite and did a great job supporting the guitarist. A few highlights were ...Wichita Lineman, Poor Side of town and a jam with many quotes from various Hendrix classics, which was quite a treat. His originals are inventive and all have great hooks with memorable lines I found myself humming after the show.
Johnny A s' music is melodic, accessible and professionally presented with no pretense what so ever, He's simply up there enjoying what he's doing and hoping his audience is also.
I'll definitly be there to show my support when he comes to town again !! Cool
