Hi there!
What a cool night. Back from Robben Ford and the Ford Blues Band Gig in Freudenburg/Germany last night. Very nice.
The Band: Robben Ford, Mark Ford, Patrick Ford, Dewayne Pate and Volker Striffler.
The guys very in a very good mood always joking and laughing on stage. Sorry, can't remember all of the songs. Mixed set w/ songs from all of the musicians. They shared the singing in between the songs. Some did Mark, some Robben and some of the songs Volker. Show startet with Lovin' Cup. Songs I remember: Homework, Tired of Talking, Keep on Running, Cannonball Shuffle, very cool version of Little Red Roooster, It's About Time (Bloomfield) one song was called Murder ("she's a murder, in some kind a way"...think it was like this) and some more unknown tunes.Oh yeah, I forgot. Moonchild Blues, of course!!! Very, very good. Volker is a really good player. Even Robben was surprised about his soloing and voicings during the show. Robben did not bring a lot of gear. He was playing a Les Paul only, don't know the exact model, check the pix. Bookmatched with the thrus rod cover missing. Anyone know this guitar? He was also using a regular Fender "The Twin" Amp and his little Zendrive Booster. No effects exept a little Reverb from the Amp. Even no Wah-Pedal. No Daved, no other technicians. Got my "New-Morning" DVD signed, along with my Ford Blues Band DVD and my Tribute to M. Bloomfield CD. Thanks[img] [/img] |

Thanks the link, Mjusic !
It looks like the band on this DVD is: Patrick, Dewayne, Volker and Andy ? I was hoping to find a DVD with Mark Ford, because I've never seen him in concert. And I still haven't seen the Center Stage concert on PBS. _________________ Travelling by train of thought |

That was Pat's regular band until Andy Just decided to avoid European tours, stay in San Jose and get married (was engaged the last time I talked to him) and Pat talked Mark out of "retirement". Crazy Bout My Baby is one of Andy's signature songs. Andy is a bit more showy than Mark, who is kind of laid back. With Andy, he is kind of the front man for the band, with Mark, it's more divided between him and Volker. Both great harp players with different styles. Both can play jazz on regular blues harps, somehow finding inbetween jazz notes that aren't supposed to be there. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Well i presume that's why we all love blues . If i had to state something like this (wich i didn't) i suppose (nahhh i'm sure) that i would had state
the exact contrary ..... Don't get me wrong i don't wanna get implied in a steril polemic , i just want to stress over the fact that everyone is unique and even if Mark were not being the brother of a guitar player i really dig (sorry i worship Mr Hendrix) i would , i'll say that i really enjoy his playing way more than mr Just whom i really dug a live performance.
But ........ I feel the fact you're building your house makes you real hearthy..... don't forget your boat. _________________ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=147748 |

AGAIN BLOB: what do you want to say??? I just don't understand your broken English, maybe I could understand you ??? in French? What now? Do you like Andy Just or not? Why is Mark the brother of Jimi Hendrix? When will the stress be over and who do you want to sterilize because of implied polemics? And most of all: why do we all love the blues?

Combination of Chris Cain and Andy Just? I don't think that much stage energy is containable in one body.
Andy is a real showman. We played together at the retirement party for JJ's former owner, and were doing the head to Keep On Dancing in unison while leaning into each other back to back (and the crowd goes wild ). He can really tear into it and pull off riffs that belong more to a sax than blues harp, all while wailing though a Marshall preamp plugged into a Super. But I have seen him lay back and play really tastefully and melodically. As well as play a supporting role to someone else. Check out "Self Preservation" on the Bremenale CD, where he and Wedemeyer both lay back over a slow blues, occasionally threatening to take off, but setting us down gently instead. Or, if anyone ever heard the Ugly Jesters where he and Terry Hiatt did bebop lines in unison.
I will admit, that I usually expect to see a more tasteful and broader performance from Mark and really love his approach. He truly approaches the blues harp like a jazz saxophonist. But I think that if you see Andy in the right circumstances, you'd be similarly impressed. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Andy Cain..... Yeah right. I'm sorry, my fault. Was writing about Andy and thinking of Chris Cain. Sorry.
It's 100% Andy Just on the DVD. But I think I like Mark's playin' much more. Mark was using effects with his harp. Very long delays... Awesome!
