As some of you might know, I already have the album for several weeks now. (lucky me!!) During that period I listened many times. My first impression of an album (or any piece of artwork) is the most influential. I never have to change my opinion after a few times listening, neighter do I have to get used to a piece of music. I strikes me, or not. I agree with the above quote. One thing I gave up during the last few years is comparing Robben's albums. In his case, it doesn't make sense to me.
I find Keep On Running a very tasteful album. It also appeals to me that an artist likes to make an album with covers of songs that where his favorites in the past. I myself are working on such a project for some time now. From the beginning I found Badge a bit thin in the vocals. But I think the reason is that I'm very used to several Clapton versions. This is a different approach. In fact Robben's approach is always different. That's one of the reasons I like his playing so much.
And for Mayall; his playing doesn't bother me. In fact if a blues legend as he is would be available for my album, I wouldn't dare to tell him to shut up!
Anyway, "Keep On Running" will always be one of my favourite albums from now on.
Greetings

Hi
I see you can now buy the 'Keep On Running' (Import) for $35.49.
If anyone is desperate for the album with the extra track, I'm sure I can buy it here and ship it out for less than that !!

I'm sad. I've listened to the new CD twice, and while there is some great playing there (this is Robben, after all), I'm just...sad. Somehow I got the impression he was returning to something Blue Line-ish. Shame on me to have expectations.
I agree with Professor. The selection of tunes is just fair. Badge.... ouch. Robben's got a great voice, but it doesn't show up enough here. I love brass, but not these arrangements- they were recorded so poorly I thought they were synth. I like simpler playing, too, but where's the fire? You know how Jimmie Vaughan can pin your ears back with one well-placed note?
I am going to listen more, because you guys are telling me I should, but doggone, it shouldn't have to be that way. I'll get back to ya'll, if you'll let me. _________________ almost 50 and working on my chops- again |

Well, I've gone through "Keep on Runnin" about a dozen times now, and while it does grow on me (well, except for "Badge"...), it's still a sub-par effort for Robben, IMO... I listened again to "Blue Moon" today, and it just blew this CD outta the water, on all counts.
Don't get me wrong... I'm not gonna toss "Keep on Runnin," but I'll definitely be waitin' for the next CD in the hopes that there's some redemption to be had there... _________________ Regards, Dave Orban |

I have to agree with the Professor, I was underwelmed. There are some great songs, but the album does not stand up to the last few. There are a number of covers on this one. Sometimes covers are better, sometimes not.
Ones that stand out:
Badge - I like this version
Bonnie - great song
Cannonball - fabulous
Homework - Peter Wolf re-did this on his last solo. Wuba Guba does it best
PL&U - just the wrong tempo. |

Just picked up 'Keep On Running' (the 12 track version) from my local shop and so far (up to track 10), I believe there is not one single, bad trackon the CD.
Interesting covers and good original songs, great guitar playing, tone and style - if I have one moan its this, for such a great musician/songwriter why didnt he include more of his own compositions on the record! - lets get another one soon.
Does anyone know if the current tour setlist covers many of the new CD songs? or is it more older RF stuff ? - either way I am seeing the Band soon so whatever they play will be cool
Cheers

Simon,
Check out my post about RF's first show of the tour. I posted the set list from that night where you can see the songs played from the new CD.
