|
|
Shunyata Records™ is proud to announce the release of the CD, "Zen Blues Quartet™", by the group of the same name.
Comprised of some of the best studio musicians in LA, it features: Steve Ferrone - drums (Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Average White Band...), Jeff Young - keyboards, (Sting, Jackson Browne, Donald Fagen...), Tim Scott - bass and lead vocals (Jack Mack, Tower of Power, Robben Ford...) and John March - guitars. With special guests Rev. Dave Boruff - tenor sax, Tom Saviano - tenor sax, Steve Madaio - trumpet, and Milen Kirov - keyboards. Recorded "Live" at Westlake Audio this past December, and Mastered at Capitol Records.
This CD is a fantastic snapshot, of a moment where musicians played together with passion, and a total disregard for what might happen later. We just played because we love playing music! We know--a crazy concept!!! But...
Live music with real musicians, really playing. No slick effects, no pitch correcting the vocals in Protools, just music!
For more information about this project, please visit our site on the web at www.zenbluesmusic.com
If you like the CD, then please forward this email to all your friends, and help us subvert the corporate agenda
by keeping real music alive and kicking!
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Best wishes

I quite like John March's playing and philosophy, so I will be ordering a copy of this CD as soon as it becomes available. I suspect I won't be alone.

Dear Mr. Morgan,
Thanks for the kind words! It is funny because last night I got called for a record date for a major label, went to a great studio and proceeded to wait for 6 hours and the artist was a no show. Needless to say it was a Hip-hop artist! We were all talking in amazement that this apparently is becoming the norm. My view that good musicians playing together is a good idea is also my hope that we can turn things around in an industry that does not understand why things are not working, but will throw money away on "Artists" who don't care about the process. Go figure!
We are hoping to be able to sell CD's soon, just working out a few kinks in the mechanics on the web!
Again thanks and stay in touch! |

I see that your profile states "guitarist" with an interest in Zen, physics and the blues. Can I assume that I have the pleasure of talking with John March? If so, I'm certainly very pleased to "meet" you. Any chance of your bringing the Zen Blues Quartet to Japan in the future?

Yes this is John. ;)
We hope to. We have mangement here and representation in Europe but no distribution or contacts in Japan. If you know of someone we can speak with i would love to play in Tokyo again. I liked it very much wehn i was last there with NHK.
On a personal note I have a very dear friend in Kumamoto who is an american teaching haiku and literature at the University there. You both have quite a bit in common.
The CD will actually be available in 3 days and i will repost. Thanks for your support!
Best regards

John/Zen - ditto on the comments from Bill Morgan. Count me in on the cd, too. Good tunes - Pack it Up! How cool was this, getting to play this with Steve Ferrone who was on the Freddie King session for "Burglar." Great tune! Is Body and Fender the Johnny Adams song?
Keep us posted on the release, tours, etc. Best of luck with changing the shape of the music biz. |

The reason we chose that tune was that that particular session was Steve's first session! I am really impressed that you knew he was on that. In fact each tune we chose was for personal reasons, very impromptu, no rehearsal, and we just played!
Thanks for the support. We are hoping to have the web mechanics worked out by this week. Some of the technical aspects of selling things on the web takes time so we can be sure that the transactions are safe and secure.
Please stay in touch.
Best

That was Steve's first session? Wow - what a great way to start out. To me, Freddie was THE man, and Burglar, IMHO, is one of his most underrated releases. Killer band on this LP, and Pack it Up is one of the funkiest things Freddie ever did. A lot of the credit was due to Ferrone - just great drum chops on some very cool tunes. |

The new version is also great! Steve was adamant about doing it and there is a lot going on in that tune! I am really proud of this CD. Plus Tim Scott is an AMAZING singer and Bass player and he sang and played Bass at the same time for the whole recording. The whole thing was a pretty magical experience. i will really look forward to hearing feedback on our versions from guys like you who listen and really know and care!
Best

Well, after much ado about nothing, we were able to work out the web/technical glitches, and our Cd is now available to be purchased online at www.zenbluesmusic.com.
Thanks for your patience.
