I am psyched about the tone I am getting with the Eminence Tonespotter. This is supposedly a 1265 clone.

Great sound, as usual, Scott
I was wondering if you have any info about how the Tonespotter compares with the Two Rock 1265 clone (manufactured by the same company, as we know). I'm thinking it's possible they could be virtually identical Wink

They are not. Even Two Rock has been preferring the Spotter as of late (so I hear)

Scott, thanks, that's interesting.
I like the Tonkers I have, I'm curious about how the sound of the Tonespotter would compare. Never played with a 1265 type speaker. Guess there is really only one way to find out.

I loved the backing track. and the takes on it.

Here's my offering - Jee no where near these other monsters though Neutral

(First use of a Koch load box on my Skrydstrup OD50)

Lovely playing and tone Woody.

Is it miced up speaker or is it direct out from the Koch?

Thanks bluesman Wink

No it's miced via the speaker (sm57) but the full output was dropped by about 40% using the koch load box. I'm chuffed to bits that I can still get that live gig sound but at a level that should ensure I don't go deaf before my time! I A/B'd them against a Hotplate and found the Koch suited the amp far better and was the purest in terms of not colouring the tone or killing it. The direct out from the Koch is still very useable but is nowhere near as good as miced. I would highly recomend it.

Thanks a bundle for posting the BT - It was Inspiring to play over as was your take.

Really frikkin' sweet John! I love the seamless jazz line integration! Sounded kind of Mockish ;)

What gear? I loved the low end texture! A bit muffly processed sounding on top, but the lows had a nice quality.

hmnnnn... Mockish, you mean like the Mozart/Bach thing from Spinal Tap? Yeah I can hear that! lol
I am not sure what Mockish means but I will take it as a compliment.

Most of what i do, when i play too many notes, my bass player calls my "Stumblin'" style, where you never really know what will come out next. I like to think it is years of drooling over Oscar peterson, but i don't think i am even close to that kind of melodic or rhythmic control.

Gear; Well I had to do this as a quicky so i just threw a Royer 121 ribbon mic in front of my Line6 AX212 which is always on. That might explain some of what you might be hearing in the top end. Also i solo on the neck pickup mostly. i like a rounder tone with a little less edge. it hides my mistakes and flubs better!

It was fun to just be silly and play for the sake of playing. i don't get to do that as much these days. Thanks again.

Best

john

Thanks!

I make my living in the studios as a mixer and session player. So for me this is great fun to just play! A lot of my time is not spent that way and certainly there is nota large call to take long and notey solos!!! I had forgotten how fun that is!

I have heard of Don mock but i don't know who he is, maybe but I don't know...

best

john Very Happy

I think this online jamming idea is a great use of the internet and technology. Is there an area or can we make one for this purpose? It is great because it just cuts throuigh all the BS and is about music and sharing ideas. i love that. people could make backing tracks, variations people submit, I don't know, lots of ideas come to mind, but i do know that music is essentially about community and i am really in favor of keeping Blues music alive and modern. Any ideas guys?

Best

john

PS

Thanks for all the compliments people have been emailing. It is always nice to hear words of support.
