thanks for the reply. you read my mind. i did lower both pups and the neck a bit more. it did clear up the tone quite a bit- especially with both pups. i also went back to the original wiring, instead of rs's custom schematic. for my guitar, it sounds much better- less hi-fi and more musical. maybe the volume pots need to be loaded by the tones, i don't know.
here's a dumb question- why did gibson start to use 300k and 100k pots in their 70's guitars if it made them so dark? why not stay with 500k?
