Only having tried the Zendrive out very briefly (thanks DD) I'm no authority on the subject. However I recently bought an Ibanez Tube King TK999 (discontinued but still fairly easily available SH) off ebay and it has knocked all my other pedals into the proverbial cocked hat.

When it arrived I was pleased but when I swapped the generic chinese valve for a jj it burst into life. Lovely juicy fat sounds, three band eq with plenty of bass reserve. Plus enough gain to go from bluesy RF stuff to really high gain Gary Moore (if that's your thing).

Mine cost just over £50, bargain!

People on the Gear Page (well, gear addicts to say the least) have been mentioning a pedal named Cactus Crunch a lot lately, for this kind of sound...
Haven't tried one myself, perfectly happy with my Zendrive as it is.
The Barber LTD as been mentioned as well...
