Just to prove this is not hype, check out the Jan 06 Guitar Player mag review found at this link;

The ZD is the "Holy Grail" of OD pedal's my friends. It can't be improved upon, sound and dynamics wise, IMHO, and it seems, other's too! That is of course, unless you are a death metal nut Smile

Happy playing,

Cheer's,

DD

Can someone either post here, or pm me, on the details to order a Zendrive? Alf emailed me a while ago, but it remained at my previous job's PC...

Thanks!
JZ

Alf's site is,

www.hermidaaudio.com

and his email is,

ahermida@hermidaaudio.com

He is a really nice guy, and he'll give you an honest lead time on the pedal. It will be worth the wait!

Cheer's,

DD

Shell we say SMALL OVERDRIVE pedals, because there is no comparison with KOCH PEDALTONE which has SIX overdrives in it (Dumble, Marshall, anything you desire and design). But it costs $700 and it weights 4kg.

I notice that there is a lot of miscontent with the Banzai Fireball ever since the Zendrive took the lead.

I've still got one, and although I wouldn't keep it as my only OD pedal, it still does some nice sounds I like, like this one:

I am thinking about getting a Zen Drive to use with my Deluxe Reverb (for my small rig). In this case, I DO want the pedal to change the sound of the amp.

I tried a Zen with my Deluxe Reverb. I could get an overdrive like my Fuchs, or I could make it sound like the DR cranked. Especially with a Strat. The character of both guitar and amp came though.

Now I'm just waiting, waiting, I'm just a sometime love... Hopefully Alf is able to put things back together after the storms and catch up on pedals. I offered help to "productionize" it, but I'm glad he's working with each one.

Sorry this is off topic guys, but I felt I had to write this after reading Aeolians message.....

Aeolian,

I also offered Alf the same type of service, but I never got a reply on that one. I think it was a polite way of saying, thanks but no thanks. I wouldn't be surprised if we weren’t the only people to offer our services!

My main incentive was to offer help to Alf, due to the fact he was succumbing to ever increasing pressure to produce the pedals (especially after the last hurricane). People also started to complain about lead times on various forums. This coupled with the fact that orders are probably poised to go through the roof due to mag & user reviews, meant increased lead times, etc.

Alf is such a nice guy and very proud of his work. He has been very kind in producing a Dual A/B Zendrive for me, even under his present workload, and has been very courteous and reliable whenever I have contacted him, so I felt compelled to try and help out a bit. I would also have felt a bit privileged to do so.

What I have only just discovered is that Alf has a part time job as a lecturer (I thought it was full time; he is a professor!!), and that the pedal production side of his work is what he wanted to build upon (possibly his primary focus?) With this mind, asking someone to expose their intellectual secrets (regardless of confidentiality agreements) of their business, and of course, sharing profits, was in retrospect, a little naive of me.

I wish Alf all the best with "Hermida Audio Technology". He has brought great joy to many people with his products, me included.

Bottom line is, I would prefer to have a pedal expertly made by the main man, than from someone else.

Cheer's,

DD

I had the exact same thought many times, although I didn't act on it like you guys (Aeolian & DD). I'm no stranger to electronic components and a soldering iron... Very Happy

For what it's worth, they can live happily together...

I've had the AC for about a year or so, love it for boost and for behind-the-vocal type solos. The Zen I got earlier this year and it's a bit fatter than the AC and really, really nice to work with. It has less drive than the AC but has all the sustain and character that, on other devices, you have to turn up the gain to get. I use this most of the time, the AC sometimes and the GT8 for overdrive... um... never.

(not that it's bad, but even with so many options for OD/Distortion the Zen and AC are better!)

Running a little boost off the AC into the Zen is great too - a little bit more drive and saturation and it still retains dynamics. Both work best into a tube pre-amp; most of the time I have a direct-to-PA setup based around my GT8 and they all work happily together too. My old Boss GT3 sucked with these pedals though (although it sucked with most things...).

Cool

Chris
