Greetings...I hope this is not a dead thread yet, I just saw GA&F @ Chicago H.O.B. Daved was busy working his tail off. When the band first came on I thought ,this is going to suck, who is this stiff taking Robbens place.......but half way through the show I realized Gregg isn't going to hire a stiff and this guy (val mcullum) proved he's no stiff. He's also no Robben but he fit nicely in Greggs band. His playing his tone his slide playing were all excellent. I couldn't make out what kind of amp he was using, maybe if daved reads this he can answer, it was definitley some kind of bow-teek amp, not your average variety. Great tones. Val is a great player. I liked last years line up better not only because Robben was there but also Willy Weeks was there and there were more horns last year, but it was still a great show. I was hoping the small group of bootleggers that hang out in front of the sound console would be there so I could get a copy of the show however they were not to be seen.

FYI...
Gregg is currently working with a writer on his autobiography.
He has personally told me the story from his childhood of the closet and the nanny that he says will begin the book. Very revealing and telling.
He says that he feels it's time to tell the tale that know one else knows.
If you are fans of him and Duane, this is a book you will want to watch for. _________________ B C-ing U!

Blue,
The amp was a "Divided By 13" amp ( www.DividedBy13.com ). I had never heard of one before seeing Val's, but upon going to their website found that there appear to be a lot of big name users.
As for Val himself, he was a competent and interesting player and a pleasure to work with.
He is the son of actor David McCullum (who played the role of Russian secret agent Illya Kuryakin in the 60's TV program, "Man From U.N.C.L.E."), and the late actress Jill Ireland. He was raised by actor Charles Bronson after Jill remarried.
He was at one time a guitarist with Elvis Costello and Vonda Shepard ("Ali McBeal" fame... he was also in the band on the Ali McBeal show for the entire length of its run).
A versatile session player, (He and Robben Ford/Gregg Allman keyboardist, Neil Larson, work together often as recording studio session players) McCullum has his own country band in LA called "Jack Shit" which features drummer Pete Thomas from Elvis Costello and the Attractions. _________________ B C-ing U!
