Just to set the record straight: I never mailed anything to a guy called Greg-b. Actually I don't know Greg-b at all, or at least not under that alias.

I think that he got my link from the GPage.

Actually PierreL, you where my prime suspect ...Wink .

P.S. For Crist sake, I don't even speak French but I already figured out who Blob is on that newsgroup. Very Happy

Hi guys,

First off, I had absolutely no hand in this. I merely recorded a solo, as Charles (my good internet buddy) had requested. Charles is a great guy and although I am disappointed that he posted the tune and said it was him, he has since apologized and we are still friends. Charles is a quite good player btw. We have been trading music for years.

I would never knowingly deceive anyone. I have no reason to.

If I knew it was definately Robben (I thought it was some pro totally copping him btw), I would certainly have done a few more takes and put in a better showing!

Please accept my apologies for my involvement (even though it was indirect)

Scott

I'm just wondering (or am I jalous?) that you have so much time to discuss this subject on the Forums in stereo! Have fun if you enjoy it really. In the meantime "I'm shouting at the waves" on my own way.

Amusing thread - I had never heard that tune anyway. Thanks. Years ago in Miami I was working with an older Pedal Steel player & he told me he had a tape of him jamming with the Dixie Dregs because he knew I was a fan. I listened to the cassette & I knew it was Nashville Superpickers....Buddy Emmons on Steel, etc. Not him with The Dregs. I never called him on it because he was a nice guy - but I thought that was just plain weird of him to do that.

Andy,

you are a polite and diplomatic guy and you use "plain weird" where I would use "pathetic, sad, treacherous, perfidious, shameless,...."

What plagerists don't understand is that some of us could recognize Robben playing a banjo in a subway on a monday morning at a mile's distance.

They understand shit about Robben and personal style in general if they think that they can just plant an anonymous Robben playalong track on us as their own.

Hey Scott,

I just read your post. Thank you for clarifying.

First of all, I think that it's difficult to say that "you had nothing to do with this". Your solo is on the plagerised track together with Robbens solo.

However, as I have posted before, you have told us that you have been tricked by your buddy Charles into making you believe that Robben's solo was actually his. I accept your explanation and I have no suspect that you have done this intentionally. Even that scumbag of Charles hasn't negated this version of facts.

Yes, your buddy Charles is a scumbag in my books. Piratery is one thing, but taking Robbens 30 years of work, practise, personal style, touch and emotion and claiming that they are his - is for a scumbag.

Moreover, decieving (and cheating on) the other members of GPage is despicable as well.

I don't care how fast his runs are an how he resolves his tritone subs and so on....."Good Players" simply don't do these things. There is a lot more to being a "Good" musician than simply playing notes right.

Therefore, your buddy Charles is NO"Good player" in my books and I don't even have to hear him play, since he gas done enough to show us what he really is.

You are saying that Charles is a great friend of yours and that he apologized. Well, no friend of mine would consciously tricks me into participating in a case of plagiarism. Moreover so if I had any serious intententions of making a profession out of music. Only a scumbag would do that to me, not a friend.

Take care Scott and beware from anonymous mp3 tracks, whoever may they come from.

Marin,

Watch that blood pressure. It helps to put it in perspective. From my understanding, Scott's friend played a very immature gag on him, which, somehow, got a little out of control. Although foreseeable, I really don't believe that anyone intended it to come this far. Such is the power of the internet - your most careless moments can receive world-wide attention in an instant.

It appears to have been an extremely immature prank that should be strongly discouraged, and your indignation is appropriate given that the trespass was upon sacred territory. But it doesn't appear to me that anyone, including Charles, really intended to misappropriate Robben's work for their benefit or profit. It doesn't appear that a sinister purpose or motive was involved; so I doubt that anything more should be made of it. I understand that Charles has "fessed up" and I would imagine that his embarrassment is immense. If it isn't, I doubt that there is anything we could say or do to rehabilitate him.

Kudos to you for tracking the prank down and turning it around. With fans like you, who needs the RIAA :-)
