Funny thing happened on the way home from the gig, I was striken with a bad case of food poisioining and laid flat for a couple of days. Sorry, no pictures. The turnout was dismal and none of my so-called friends showed up that I could hand a camera to. I found a mike for my Archos recorder but the level came out really low. Who says digital is perfect? When I brought the level back up there were all these underwater swirling sounds going on. Anywho, here are a couple of clips from the night.

I was saving Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood until Elizabeth came but by the second set she was another no-show and Endre had suggested it. Endre is singing. Bryant had never played this before so Endre skipped over the two bar turnaround after the last chorus. The fun part is when Bryant broke into a latin groove during the solos.

To give you an idea of the calibre of these guys, here's a clip from The Chicken (Jaco's arrangement) with solos by Endre and Bryant. During the drum solo, Endre walked over and said "I could just listen to him do solos all night". No argument from me on this.

I don't know if it was nerves or the onset of the food poisioning but I was blowing riffs I've played since I was 12. At least the rig sounded decent, especially the clean channel. Not entirely happy with the OD, kind of buzzy. Here's a bit from a slow blues, Ray Charles' I've Got News, which is one of my favorites.

Most of the night was the 335, towards the end I plugged in the Tele and during Chevrolet was really channeling Robben's live Tele tone. If I can find some sections without too many clams, I'll put that up here too.

Cheers to all and thanks for the kind words of encouragement. It's been awhile since I led my own thing and I should have remembered that it takes a lot more preparation and practice than backing someone else up. You have to have everything on autopilot so you can lead the band, rather than just listening and reacting to someone else.
