Well it's Monday morning here in Tokyo, and I'm in a bad mood, so I guess this is a good time to play devil's advocate.
First of all, for a pedal maker to join a group like this for the apparent purpose of selling his wares is pretty much the definition of spam. I don't know how the Captain handles this kind of thing, but of course it is totally up to him. Maybe a separate Emporium section for members to sell stuff, like they have on the Gear Page, might be a good idea.
That being said, I know that the Mosferatu pedal has gotten a lot of good reviews, and the Zendrive clips sound interesting, although I would rather hear the pedal without all the reverb/delay muddying things up. How about some more clips with different guitars and without the extra effects added?
One last thing, a statement from a pedal maker that Robben is using one of his pedals, with nothing to substantiate that statement, sounds a lot like something Mike Fuller would say. I'm not saying that your statement isn't true, but it is too easy for someone to send a pedal to Robben and then turn around and say that Robben is using that pedal. So how about some details on his "use" of the pedal? If he is gigging with it somewhere, I'm sure some of us would like to go see him with the pedal to see what he does with it.

Bill:
I'm the designer of the Mosferatu and the Zendrive. Someone actually emailed me indicating that there were a few posts about RF and one of my pedals. The messages are located at
I don't recall ever mentioning anything about RF and my pedals..if that's not accurate please let me know where I did so. The Gainster posted some clips of the Zendrive because he might have read the same messages I did and he has one prototype unit in his hands. He's doesn't work for me nor I asked him to post anything...I know he has a large collection of clips on the web and a lot of us do appreciate that since we get a chance to hear equipment that we have never used.
Finally, I would LOVE to see RF live, never had the opportunity...so I don't know what he actually uses on stage.

Alf,
Thanks for the quick reply and for straightening things out. I'm afraid I get a bit ornery when I see people making unsubstantiated claims, and I am very happy to see that you are not doing that. As I said, your Mosferatu pedal always gets excellent reviews, and I did like what I heard from the Zendrive clips. I wouldn't be surprised if Robben did turn out to like that pedal.
Sorry if I flew off the handle a bit. I appreciate your honesty and look forward to getting a chance to try out your pedals here in Japan.

No problem. There are some guys in Japan that have my stuff. Email me privately and I'll get you their info....maybe they live near you and you can check out their gear.

I always try and be upbeat on ANY forum I am on. I was pm'd a link from this forum by a friend about Robben using the Zendrive at a show he saw.
I do not make it ...I do NOT, and have NEVER sounded like Mr. Fuller, and I put ALLOT time and effort into making and storing all the clips I post!!!
I don't make ANY profit from making these clips! I posted it here because a friend told me about this forum and how much people like talking about his gear.
My suggestion to you is to buy the pedal...take the time to record and convert and upload the files to your site... that way they will sound like you want them too!

Man....... try and do something nice............
Gainster,
First of all, I apologize for mistaking you for the maker of the Zendrive pedal. As you will see from the above messages, I have spoken with the maker and been straightened out in that regard.
Second, my reference to Mike Fuller had nothing to do with the sound of your clips. You are of course entitled to record your clips any way you like, and your efforts are surely appreciated by many. However, you should note that when recording clips for the purpose of demonstrating what a piece of gear sounds like, burying the recording in reverb, delays, or other effects tends to negate the purpose of the clip by masking the true sound of the device being demonstrated. A clean "un-effected" recording can usually show a device in a clearer light. However, this is just IMHO, and you are free to do it any way you like. Again, although my comment was meant to be helpful rather than derogatory, I apologize if I sounded unnecessarily critical.
Finally, as a new comer to this group, you may not be aware that a definitive comment like yours, i.e. "Robben is using a Zendrive Pedal" can send scores of people off to their neighborhood music store to buy that device. So while you were clearly just attempting to "do something nice", stating as fact something you only heard as a rumor, was in fact somewhat irresponsible.
Basically, while your intentions were unquestionably honorable, your method leaves something to be desired. Therefore, it would be very much appreciated if in the future you would check your facts before making a statement like the one that started this thread.
By the way, as I mentioned above, I have spoken with Alf who makes the pedals in question, and he turns out to be a heck of a nice guy, and makes some pedals which have gotten a lot of very good reviews. So anyone reading this thread please don't let my grumpy comments deter you from checking his pedals out.
I think I'm about typed out on this subject, so I'm going to call it quits with this post and get back to yelling at the people I work with. I enjoy that more anyway!

You should take your own advice!!!!
Don't worry about future posts, or clips.
What an ass!!!
Gainster, This forum is a sort of community. Many folks know each other personally and have traveled (sometimes from other continents) to visit each other. Not to say that it is a closed community, folks who enjoy Robben's music and similar music are always welcome. But name calling is not appreciated.
I saw the thread where someone noticed Robben using this pedal at a Ford brothers show up in Oregon. Following the show reviews, it was obvious that Robben was trying different things and generally enjoying himself playing some blues with his bro's. As Daved mentioned in an earlier thread, they have a box full of pedals that people send them and it would seem that Robben pulled out a few and decided to give some a try on these gigs.
It's a bit of a stretch to go from Robben being seen trying out a pedal while jamming with his brothers band, to "Robben is using a Zendrive pedal". First of all, everyone knows he plays his Dumble rig whenever practical. And that he uses various pedals like the Banzai when using backline gear on far flung tours or sitting in sessions. Even at that, I don't think I've ever heard him come right out and endorse a pedal. A comment at a clinic that he's using such and such at the moment is about as close as it gets.
I recognized your post as someone who had such a pedal and wanted others to know about how great it was. And I recognized Bill's mistake (that he also recognized and applogized for) in assuming that you were somehow related to the manufacturer. I can also see how with the manufacturer's website at the bottom of your post, all by itself, one could jump to the conclusion that there was some direct connection. The usual protocol is something like "look at this website here www.blahblahblah,com to see the manufactures info" (gee I hope that's not a real URL to some awkward site). Coming in as a stranger to folks in the community, it kind of looks like promotion. When I post something to Daved about trying Tonker speakers, it's based on having been active on this board for some time, having met Daved personally and discussed muscial likes and dislikes and folks I've played with who Robben has also used as sidemen. In otherwords, there is some foundation for such a post. Now that Daved has said that Robben has the Tonkers in his cab for the current far east tour, I still wouldnt' come out and say that Robben is endorsing or even "using" them. It would be more like he is trying them out and it will be interesting to see if they stay.
Bottom line, we like to enjoy ourselves here and share in the joy of music. Your clips sound fine, you are obviously a legitimate musician. Nothing to prove. Don't know how much experience you have of Robben, but for starters, I don't think he would ever come out in public and call someone he had never met an ass. Let your music speak for itself. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.
