Hello. I've been appreciating Robben's playing since the late 70s. I met a cousin of his back then who worked in the foothills above Sacramento, we talked when he found I played guitar and he asked if I knew who Robben was....small world...and a LONG time ago. I gave him a copy of a Guitar Player that had Robben playing a Super 400 Gibson.
I've seen Robben a few times, including playing with David Sanborn...he did a cool rendition of "Help The Poor" during that show...the guy is one special musician.
I'll be spending alot of time just catching up on posts and will post when I can. Nice to see Robben so greatly appreciated. _________________ I'll be spending way too much time here... |

Welcome aboard! Don't know if "acramento" is close to our state's fair Capitol City, but assume so. Lived in Davis from 1958 to 1967, i.e., fourth grade through high school. Great times up there in those years. Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Paul Revere & the Raiders, at the old Memorial Auditorium. Cruising on K Street. Rooting for the Aggies at the annual "big game" vs. Sac State. Watching cartoons with "Captain Sacto" on TV. (In those days Stu Nahan, long-time L.A. radio sports broadcaster, was the young "Skipper Stu," doing Popeye cartoons on Sacramento TV). And buying gear at the old Sherman Clay (I think it was on L Street). One of my brothers and his family live down near the Zoo. We love visiting, but winters are weird. I.e., those days when the high is 30 and the low is 31. Anyway, enjoy catching up. _________________ - BlueRunner |

Typos kill me regularly...yep...that's the place...I even met Capt. Sacto at a party when I was a little kid and my mom worked in the state capitol...seems as if it wasn't that long ago...Sunrise mall didn't exist...I've lived around here for over 30 years, since I was very young. Moved to San Francisco for two of my high school years in '67-'68...then back. I've probably seen a few dozen concerts at Memorial Auditorium as well...great times and very good music. I stuck around here after getting a dose of winters back east. I learned to hate shoveling snow. The fog and occasional cold and rainy days I can handle. It'll take me awhile to catch up on the threads here...lots of fun! _________________ I'll be spending way too much time here... |

Oh yeah...I remember the intro footage of him climbing into a Sabre Jet-probably at the Executive Airport...my little sister's Girl Scout Troop actually got to be on that show...don't forget Captain Mitch...he wasn't much competition for a guy with a fighter jet though.
Glad your career has taken off Daved. Hope to see you next time Robben plays in the area! _________________ I'll be spending way too much time here... |

Oh gheeeeeeesh, Daved. I'd forgetten about the "secret airbase." In my 5th grade imagination I always imagined it being over by the Milk Farm, on the way to Vacaville. Can't explain why, but it just seemed a logical place. _________________ - BlueRunner |

I always looked forward to watching my favorite cartoons of the time... "Tom Terrific (and his faithful companion, Mighty Manfred)" and "Crusader Rabbit" (with HIS faithful companion, Raggs). _________________ B C-ing U!
