In your pics from Robben's recent gig, it appears that he doesn't have the chrome covers on the pickups. Was this just an optical illusion in the pics of the sunburst Les Paul? The most recent pics posted today by The Gainster clearly show covers in place. What did you see with your own eyes?

P.S. Thanks a bunch for the great live mp3's you have made available from the show. Awesome job!

Robben has always preferred covers on his pickups. I was a bit surprised when, after installing the BurstBuckers, he said he kinda liked the look of the removed covers.

However, after a few months, I was not at all surprised when he finally decided he wanted covers on them, so I picked up a set and installed them during our shows at B.B. Kings in NYC.

But, I must confess... I am always surprised by what details the fans pick up on. Laughing To me there is an even more obvious change/addition that no one seems to have noticed yet..... Wink

Daved, thanks for clarifying.

I have always preferred the "look" of humbuckers with covers on the Les Paul. I've always figured Robben's motives were all about the tone. Maybe he appreciates the aesthetics of chrome covers, also. However, the covers do seem to warm the tone up slightly.

As for a recent change/addition to Robben's gear, the most obvious change would be his '54 goldtop with P-90's hitting the road. If there is another variable I may be missing it. Anyone else see a new ingredient to the Robben equipment?

Oh yeah, are Robben's glasses new?

There seems to be something added to the rack under the DDL, but I can't see what it is.

Something I noticed is Robben's Dumble amp sitting on the speaker cabinet rather than on top of the rack. Oops, sorry Daved. I just saw your thread in your discussion area regarding the new statge setup.

It does seem like something else is in the rack other than the 2290 and dumblelator.

In the "Lots of Robben and Greg PHOTOS!" thread, (Fri Feb 04) I posted:
" ... it appears that the amp for this tour is Dumble #2. I'm assuming it's the amp pulled from the combo configuration (it's last home) and put into the new cream colored head cab. Perhaps Daved could verify sometime when things slow down a bit for him."

I was noting that this is not the "regular" amp (i.e. his main #1 Dumble) we have been seeing him with most of the time. (maybe it's new, a loaner, or the backup one I was referring to above)

I don't know if this is what Daved is referring to or not, don't know if one would consider it "more obvious" than pickups (If I'm right about the amp do I win a prize?)
There is definitely a third (new) piece in the rack also.
Very Happy
Phil

Hmmmmm, and I bet it has nothing to do with gear. Am I right, Daved?

You could be right, Liz. There was at least one picture where his shoes were showing!
