Ok I'm new here- I have a gig in a couple weeks and this band wants to do FREEDOM. I love the song and have dabbled in the leads and the chorus- but what the heck is going on at the intro and background of the versus? I know it rocks back and forth between what sounds like an EM9 or something and an AM7 and then up to a BM7- but then holy crap- there is a weird chord suggesting a C something - but i am TOTALLY at a loss - it has become an obsession to figure out this song- can anyone help me? I am thinking of ordering the tigerwalk book- but it would never get here in time - Can i just purchase that song sheetmusic in tab or something on the web without buying the whole book? thankss in advance.
BTW- dont get me wrong - i want Robben to get what is coming to him for this incredible song and all the rest - I'm not looking for someone to just email me the sheetmusic- jeez, mainly tho- in detail- what is the fingering for that C chord before the chorus starts.
ROBBEN_ PLEASE COME TO SPOKANE

Here's what I posted on another thread.
C6/9, B-7, A-7, B- +9/11, B-11 for the chord hits in the intro.
I play the C6/9 at the third fret which is where I've typically seen Robben play it. Although Robben's command of the fretboard is so amazing, he revoices chords all over the place. I'm not sure what you mean by the last C chord. The chords for the verse part are C dom, Bmin, Amin and back up, I think. I've always played this as a trio and don't usually play the chords. It ends up with a G major riff leading into the G13 chord for the "chorus" part between G and C, which ends on a "Cliffs of Dover" stacked 1's and 5's G chord. That last B min thing (the minus means minor in musical shorthand) has the 9th (C#) on the 1st string which is the chord melody part you hear and holds the 11th (or sus 4th if you will) on the third string and 5th string. At least this is how I play it. Here's an ugly cassette recording of me playing the beginning of the song. If it sounds right to you, say at how many seconds the part you're interested in happens and I can say what that chord is. http://stevekirbymusic.com/Musicdownloads/Freedom.mp3
Wonderful song. Wanna hear your take on it. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

I enjyed the clip- As usual- i was making things harder than they are- the "C" i was talking about was at the end of the a-, b- lick - which as it turns out to be a Cmaj7. So with that knowledge- i was able to find a couple of postions for that. The rythm chords in that song are so subtle because of his melody line that you hardly ever notice it unless u are trying to figure it out
Thanks for your help. Our performance is on Feb 4- if we tape it ill forward what we do if it is worth it. Thnsks again- i hope to continue learning. _________________ I'm pickin...an' he's a grinnin'
