Cool Been having lots of fun of late. Wednesday night it was Los Straitjackets and Dave Alvin & The Guilty Men, at SOhO, in Santa Barbara, and then last night, Samba Ngo, at Don Quixote's, Felton (Santa Cruz). Wonderful stuff, both nights. A few mysteries, though. E.g., with those Mexican wrestler masks on, how can you tell if the Straitjackets do all that weird stuff with a straight face? Is Dave Alvin related to Walter Trout? And given that a lot of Ngo's lyrics (in African French) are about how the politicians are killing the Congo, why does his music make you feel so happy?

Added to the live fun, a great revelation: On my TV in the motel in Santa Cruz, a local access cable show of taped concerts from Moe's Alley!

Came home in time to watch Paul McCartney at the Super Bowl halftime show. Disappointed that he didn't have a wardrobe malfunction.

More news later on most of these same stations.

BR,

Sounds like a fun weekend. i spent Sat and Sun scraping of 3 layers of ancient wallpaper in an upstairs room we are remodeling.

I actually thought Paul's haltime show was pretty good as copmpared to some of the crap we've been subjected to over the years. Wasn't too happy with the final score though. Lots of McNabb fans in upstate NY ( myself included )

Hi Blue - how was Dave Alvin? One of my faves, from way back in the Blasters era. What a great talent.

Saw this same show at Moe's last week. Sold out on a Tuesday night. Alvin was great. Has that laconic blues thing totally down. But plays his a$$ off when the moment calls for it. Los Straightjackets were fun too. Not going to make Holdsworth look over his shoulder, but a lot of fun.
