A trip to gold country might also be in order. Take a look at
http://www.fireonthemountain.com/blues.html
If you haven't been, this is a nice, mid-size blues festival and a 2nd chance to see the Butterfield/Bloomfield tributes. With Elvin, no less. |

It really is going to be a fantastic Summer! I went to that festival the last time the Ford Brothers played there. (We roasted there!) Looks like some serious road trips ahead.

Too cool, Robben, Elvin Bishop, and surprise, Laura Chavez. If you haven't seen this young woman, you should. The real deal. Rooted in traditional blues but not derivative. The best young guitarist I know of. Yeah, she plays a Strat though a Tube Screamer into a Super, and we've all heard that before, but seldom the way Laura does it. Unlike the SRV wannabe's and young bucks, Laura has a sensitivity and range that goes beyond her years and a voice that is unmistakably her own. Someone that really "feels" the music. And she understands and appreciates music outside the genere she specializes in. We've played Rufus together and she can get as funky as you wanna be, or jump into changes like The Chicken. Of course we all want to see Robben, but if you go, get there early enough to catch this amazing young lady. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

I'll definitely be checking my calendar and will let you know when I can get up. Would love to get together again with a bunch of you NorCal'ers. Maybe I'll rent a large tank truck and bring up some of that rain that appears to have completely skipped you this season, but has left us treading water down here! _________________ - BlueRunner |

I vaguely remember this being discussed before, but where do you Californians draw that North-South line? _________________ Soul on Eleven |

Here's my vote RE NoCal / SoCal line - I think just above San Luis Obispo is the dividing line. There are folks who'll tell you anything above Santa Barbara is NoCal.
Cheers! _________________ iamthewalrus

San Luis Abysmal is where So. Cal folks draw the line, for Nor Cal folks it's somewhere long a line from Gilroy through Sonora with special dispensation for Monterey but not Salinas. Guess the folks in the middle are on their own. Sorry Fresno
Can't imagine what it's like for a boy from Ukiah to be below all lines of demarcation.
As for the water, we got our share. I spent last night shoveling dirt and silt that had washed down behind my house in Santa Cruz and completely buried a 12 x 20" drain inlet so that a river had formed under my deck.
It's funny how some folks in So. Cal seem to think that things Robben's brothers up in Redwood Valley deal with day to day, are a natural disaster when they happen south of Santa Barbara _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

For those of you going to Sonora, be sure to catch Too Slim and The Taildraggers show - you'll love it. Great mix of blues, rockabilly, funk, blues, rock ... they are a fun band and excellent musicians. |

Java Diva! So good to hear from you. Advance tickets this year (like I always have done, with the exception of last year...I had to learn the hard way!)
I'm going to see Jonny Lang (with his acoustic band) in two weeks...at the Fillmore. I would love to go see Chris Cain next week, but I already have tickets to see Billy Collins.

Where's Chris? Need my dose of great guitar until Robben gets up here.
Although Frank, Chick, and Dave will be great next month. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.
