Rather than record a new CD for Concord this year, Robben has been selecting tunes for a retrospective package to be released this summer with a couple of new 'bonus' tracks such as, possibly... finally, a recorded version of the much sought after "Moonchild Blues".
Also, he & Dal have both mentioned to me that they are hoping to record a live show in the spring specifically to be issued as a DVD. _________________ B C-ing U!

Thanks Daved. That's really great news to look forward. I'm curious where this DVD recording in the Spring will take place. Of course I hope it will be in Europe. Paradiso Amsterdam? New Morning Paris? |

Definitely, I will buy the CD, buy the DVD and get the T-Shirt (hopefully) my last bit of Robben merchandise was a T-shirt from the Handful of Blues tour in 1996 !!!!!!
No Merch on the 2003 UK tour - so get them shirts up and for sale on the website! |

So Daved, do we get to suggest tunes for the retrospective? With as many opinions as there are on this board I am sure we can come with 15-20 tunes! I am assuming these will be from the Concord releases only? |

I'm sure a lot of people would love to input their fave tunes... LOL.
Actually, form one of the lists Robben gave me to fax off to Concord the other day, it looks like a big chunk of his selections are "Blue Line" recordings from way back. In fact, he mentioned that, as he reviews his recordings, he is surprised how much he really likes the "Handful Of Blues" album and consistently wants to use songs from that recording. _________________ B C-ing U!

Hi Daved,
thanks for the info.
I hope, as you say, some material does come from the "Handfull Of Blues" album as this is one of my favs. A concert I saw back in '96 (Cambrdige UK) was from the "Hand Full Of Blues" tour, and was the moment from which I became totally hooked on RF's music.
Keep us posted with info, please.
Cheer's,

Hi Guys
I'm sorry but I don't want to buy a Robben Retrospective. I certainly don't want to have to buy it for one or two new tracks (Moonchild Blues or not !!).
I have All Robben's Albums and if a 'Greatest Hits' is put out with 'new tracks', I'll go File-Sharing to get them.
I'm not blaming anyone for this idea, it's done all the time, but leave me out...........
Sorry

I got to agree with you a little. I have at least 15 Robben albums. There are few that I don't have. I can't see myself buying a greatest hits, but I'm sure I would still buy it anyway. I think a GREAT album would be a re recording of tracks. It would be fun to hear how Robben would play Talk to Your Daughter today, or Revelation, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, Mystic Mile, Sunrise, Hey Brother, Worried Life Blues, Politician, Tell Me I'm Your Man, Life Song, So What, anything from the Diorio collab, the old Hacksaw song... I would just love to hear him record these tracks again to see how he has changed. Anyway, can't wait for the DVD!

I had the same thought. I already have every legit recording Robben has ever made (I think). A greatest hist wouldn't be anything new to someone with a large collection, with the exception of Moonchild. I would love to hear Robben rerecord some of his greatest hits with new musicians! |

DVD yes! Long overdue! Sign me up!
I think it would be really cool if Robben would sneak a retrospective tune or two into his live shows. You know some real early stuff from "Inside Story" or "Talk to your Daughter" or something from the very first Yellowjackets record. Just one a show!
Thanks for the update!

Along with Moonchild, I want to cast a vote for another song that's only been done live. The Chief. A burning fusion tune that Robben wrote about Miles. He used to use it as an into to Help The Poor before that song took on it's current slow latin incarnation. It's a little more complicated than Chevrolet but any of his bands could do it. I think I've seen Hil play it but not Dewayne (although Dewayne would have a ball with this song). Seen Tom Brechtlein, Billy Johnson, Jimmy Earl, Myron Dove, Jeff Babco, and that ex. Miles keyboardist Darien something, all play this song in different combinations with Robben. Some nights it was magical, and it would be awesome to have this recorded for posterity. I asked Robben once why it wasn't on Tiger Walk and he said that they tried it but it didn't really come together. But this always seemed like a great canvas for folks to interact over, and a great band getting into this live would be the way to go. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.
