"*" stands for "BA"!!!
Well, I've always liked bass player like Jaco, Marcus, Paul Jackson, Randy Hope Taylor, Roscoe Beck, Mark King, Pino Palladino, Stanley Clarke and so on...I've always loved to strum the thing and have occasionally played it during rehearsals or in shops. I always considered it an "unnecessary expense" (since, in my mind, I was officially a wannabe-"guitarist") but now I can afford one an enjoy one. Also, I helps me get away from the guitar for a while, which makes me play better. Plus, there are a series of advantages:
- with an inflation of guitar players, it's easier to find a band
- with an inflation of guitar players, it's easier to leave a band
- only 4 string to change and less often
- only 4 string to keep in tune
- less notes to play = more efficient use of playing time (these days that counts)
- bass gear is cheaper (less snake-oil)
- don't need 6 basses
- don't need a tube amp
- basses are big so they fit my height (190cm)
- basses are sexy
- basses make people dance
- basses are fun
- other?
and here are a few of my first Mp3 bass recording:

I've noticed that while I'm putting away the pedalboard, and the drummer is folding stands, and the keyboard players are breaking down, that the bass player is already packed in the car and sitting at the bar having a drink.
Don't know about the snake oil though. Bass gear seems just as esoteric (if not more so) that guitar stuff. Avalon preamps, Glockenklang amps, AccuGroove speakers, Fodera basses, you can go broke pretty quickly. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Congratulations Marin!!!
Nice bass!
I’m sure it feels way substantial than guitar when you are holding it. |

I've noticed that it really strenghtens the left hand and makes the guitar playing seem easy afterwards.

It is really pretty. Nice cross between traditional and modern.
Do you play with your fingers? Or more guitar style with a pick or thumb and index finger? _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Thanks. I like the body colour which is a "sandwich" of Koa on top, Rosewood in the middle and mahogany in the back. The body is slightly smaller than a standard jbass. It sits really confortably and is not excessively heavy.
I play with my index and middle finger from the top, which I find unusual but I am getting used. It also helps me exercise my middle finger which was left a bit stiff after an injury a few years ago. I slap and pop with the classic "knucle" position.

OK. I'm almost convinced. Have been having the Devil's own time trying to find a regular bass player for some musicians I've been fooling around with. Haven't told any of them that I actually played bass back in high school. Maybe our new bass player is ... ME. _________________ - BlueRunner |
