After a lengthy phone conversation Robben and I had this afternoon, he (being very concerned about NOT misleading anyone) faxed me over the following letter and asked me to post it on the Boards here for everyone:

--------------------------------------------------
"Re: R.F. model custom shop guitar

I owe everyone a big apology, especially Bill Morgan who indeed owns the true Tiger Walk R.F. model guitar.

Two models were originally made and one of the two had a bad truss rod which actually broke on the first show of a European tour (resulting in a lot of 'Tele' work).

Upon returning home I had the finish taken off the other one which had kept me from playing it in the first place. I used it on Tiger Walk.

The one I'm selling now must have been made after these problems occured. I used this guitar on recordings never released by Verve/Blue Thumb.

I had totally forgotten the sale to Bill as I only remembered two guitars, one with the broken truss rod.

So that's the story. I'm selling the current one because the neck is too wide and thin for me. Concord will release a CD including a recording of a song played on this guitar called "Moonchild Blues" which we often play live but have yet to release.
It's an excellent sounding guitar.

So, sorry once again for the confusion.
Sincerely, Robben"

As a follow up to the discussion of the guitar that Robben has for sale now on ebay, I received some pictures of Robben playing that guitar from a friend of mine in the UK, Paul Wright. These were taken at Ronnie Scott's on July 22, 1999.

Cool pics Bill. The color in that last picture with Daved handing it over looks like your guitar. I got a PM from Paul saying he'd seen that guitar as well. It seems like Robben used them more often in Europe than he did in the states. I noticed on the Ohne Filter DVD that he only pulled out the Tele for one song, whereas at shows over here, he played it more than half the time and used many other things. The most I saw of the Fender RF was your guitar during the Tiger Walk shows.

Who is that bass player? It's Roscoe's setup of his signature Fender bass and Trace Elliott amp, but unless he looks vastly younger with no hair, I don't recognize him. Saw him recently at a local clinic and he was endorsing Fender amps too (and still had long hair). I see Hil on drums and Robben's Korg/Leslie set up. Wonder if Jeff Babco was there too?

I think the color looks different in that last picture because of the way the light hits it. It's the same guitar in all the pictures though.

The bass player is Roscoe, shortly after his shaved-head period. He sure looks different, but that's him!

Here's another shot of the band.

Here a link with a couple of pictures made in France same year but a couple of weeks before. Not with Roscoe, but Myron Dove on bass and (at least on the pictures) playing more the Tele then the Fender RF model.

Thanks, Henk. Those were awesome!

Allof these Robben Ford photos should be displayed in the online photos section. Some great ones there now, plus these, and even more, would be an incredible collection!

Yes, that is indeed, the lovely Hilary, the always effervescent Jeff, Roscoe during his short hair period, and me during my long hair period. Laughing

Those are some really great pictures. A lot of nice ones of Hilary too. Hil, you should get some of these on your website.

Another sodden thought. Hil, Roscoe, and Myron all sing. Usually Robben only has one of them on the gig. Wonder what it sounded like with 3 part Harmony.

I recall in '91 or so seeing the Blue Line when they did a song with the lyrics, "I ain't mad at you -- so don't you be mad at me..." and I believe they did 3 part harmony on it. I thought it was way cool. I'm too lazy to see if the tune ever showed up on a Blue Line CD.

Mike,
That song would be "Roberta" - "one and one are two; two and one are three...."

That's the one! Did it ever make it to CD? 3 part harmony, right?

Sorry, those were the only ones I received. If I get more, I'd be glad to post them.
