My band have just completed an album (funded by a music production company who offered to pay in return for the right to sell the album under a different guise (long story, I'll tell if anyone's interested). There are mainly Blues/Rock covers as requested by the company as well as a couple of originals.
Basically I wondered if it'd be okay to ask your opinions on a song or two. There seems to be plenty of guitarists/music lovers on this forum who know what they're talking about so I thought I'd start with you.
My sincere apologies if this is not OK.
Here's the link.

This one's "Chevrolet" btw.
Thanks

I'd like to give it a listen and an opinion, but I have problems downloading. On my home PC, all I get is an internet explorer page. Here at work, the download hangs and doesn't finish... _________________ Soul on Eleven |

Sorry guys
the site appears pretty slow but I tried it just now and although my status bar reads done it still takes about a minute for the server to 'retrieve download details'.
Please try again it may take a little longer than you high speed connection guys are used to (still got dial-up )
Hope you like it, guys at the fender forum, tdpri and the Kirk's SRV site are digging the stuff so you may too.
Also you could try these other songs with maybe more or less success?

I just finished listening to Chevrolet and was very impressed, Ron. Great playing. You've definitely got your own style. I can hear Robben and SRV in there but in the end it's your own thing. The solos were very well developed - you waited for the right moments to use your 'firepower' rather than just blasting the whole time. The breakdown was particularly cool.
I assume you're singing, too? Whoever it is, has a good voice.
My only criticisms would be that I thought the tempo was a little fast and I wasn't crazy about the scatting with the riff halfway through the song. But that's personal taste. That and that it took me about 10 minutes to download. Would it be possible to put this up at soundclick.com or yousendit.com? Note to any other Mac users that want to hear Ron's tracks - Safari doesn't work. I used Firefox.
I stumble through Chevrolet with my band and this has given me a bunch of ideas to try the next time we play it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Cheers

Uncle Salty: Thanks for the comments, some helpful critique there too so cheers for taking the time.
Yes I'm singing too, still finding my feet there though, was forced to sing after our regular singer in the band got pregnant three years ago (yes, it was a she )
LongIslandRod: Again thanks for taking the time. Lovin' Cup actually a '73 tele on the bridge Pup with the exception of one verse (with the stabs, "you should be downtown....." where I use the mid position. I agree that the sound is quite strat-like I think due to the '73's original pup being quite underwound and hence pretty trebly. As I recall I changed it to a Nocaster relic Bridge soon after this recording.
Btw the rest of the recordings I posted are all using a '64 strat.
Thanks again

Hey Ron,
What amp are you using? and any fx pedals?
How was it recorded, live band? with vocal overdubs?
Details man details!
I'm always interested in how people record.

You asked!
I recorded using an identical amp-pedal setup but swapped guitars for certain songs, 18 in total. (except one song 'Black Magic Woman' where I used a tri.O.D by Tech21 instead of the TS9.
Guitars:
'64 strat (mostly), '77 strat, '73 tele, '66 335.
TS9: Gain 2 o'clock, Tone 12 o'clock, Level 1 o'clock (pretty much)
Amps: Laney LC15 cranked up and piggybacked into a Fender Blues Deville. with a mix of an sm57 on an Eminence 12 from the Laney, an Eminence 12 from the Deville (both stock deville speakers) and an ambient mike roughly 10 feet away in a medium sized live room. Effects were pro-tools plug-ins (slap-back delay, and reverb, don't remember what particular plug-ins used, sorry ).
Band played live but only drums were kept, everything else was overdubbed (due to small studio me and Will the bassist had to play in the same room).
Detailed enough for ya?

Hi
The playing is great. I would play less notes and keep things
more melodic - this is just my taste.
I just find your tone is "harsh" in these recordings.
Well done - keep on going.

I finally realized the "trick" to these downloads...
Ron, after hearing Chevrolet, I had to download all the songs you made available. And, as I type, I'm blasting Lovin' Cup- awesome!
How can I buy a cd that your band just released?
What about a website?
Thanks for the excellent music!

And, just one more...
Really great Voodoo Chil(e,d,'). Very nice guitar work and especially, not overdone, which ruins it when it seems to go on forever, IMHO... I'm willing to bet that Blobby (the unabashed RF forum senior critic and major Jimi fan) agrees with me. If not, at least maybe, he'll surface (where've you been?!).
Also, terrific band you have there... _________________ Soul on Eleven |

Hi Ron,
I have had no luck with the the downloads, and would love to hear them.
Hey, I am I fellow Norfolk person. Just wondering, do you give lessons, as it sounds as if you have one great style and I would love to pick up on some great tips. Time is hard to come by for me these days (especially to find the time to play guitar) and I would be greatful for any advice/knowledge from a pro.
Keep up the great work.
All the best,
