I heard a jazz guitarist named Skip Heller last night at a coffee shop here. He was pretty good. Anybody else ever hear of him? He plays a Fender solid body that looks like a Strat body, but with only two p'ups. The cord plugs straight in like a Mustang, and there was a selector switch on the lower horn. It sounded like it might have had stacked HB's. He was a pretty funny guy, too. When the crowd got noisy he threatened to play "Cheeseburger in Paradise" if they didn't quiet down! Another time he played the opening riff to "Stairway to Heaven" to get people's attention!

My buddy Dave is good friends with Skip. I did not see him when he played in Philly last year. Sounds like an interesting cat from Dave's description of him. I think Skip is from our area in South Jersey.

The blurb in the paper said he was from LA, but you know how those things get messed up sometimes. He was supposed to play from 6pm to 8pm, but he was still playing when I had to leave at 8:30. I'd love to see him again.

There's information on Skip Heller at www.artistdirect.com - go there and put his name in the search box at the top to access a full bio and check his recordings.
"Fred Steven Heller, known to the music world as Skip Heller, is one of the Los Angeles country and roots-music scene's most interesting and complex players. [more...]"
This is part of the imusic.com site, and a great way to find information on musicians who have recorded anything.
