Hi folks,

Can anyone on the list (DaveD included! Very Happy ) help me with splitting a Gibson 57 Classic humbucker with a vintage single wire? (not the 4 conductor wire)

I am a bit of a novice, so I was wondering if there was a step-by-step EASY way to do this.

I have these in a Les Paul Standard, ES 335 and Explorer.

Thanks for your time and help!! Very Happy Very Happy

Cheers,

Dan

I wouldn't recommend it if you're not very handy with a soldering iron. Just getting the cover off can be a bear.

Then you need to find where the fine wires from the coil are attached to the main cable. Mark them so you know which one was formerly connected to ground (the shield) and which one is hot. Mess this up and you've got instant Peter Green. You need a new cable with enough conductors to route each coil back to the control cavity of the guitar. You could do this with shielded two conductor microphone wire, but most pickup manufactures use 4 conductor wire.

Then go to something like the Seymour Duncan website and look up all the fun you can have with switching combinations.
