|
|
Hello Daved,
I attended the May 28th clinic and Robben had a brand new LP Goldtop. (In fact, the tag was still on the guitar case handle.) Robben said he was going to have the neck shaved down, did you do this modification? Can you share other modifications you have made to Robben's Les Pauls? I'm a Les Paul owner and I'm curious.
Thanks,
- Paul

Altho I'll install, modify, and repair electronics & pickups, and/or dress frets, etc.... I prefer not to do those 'physical' kinds of mods (shaved necks, fret replacement, etc.). I don't carry the proper tools for that sort of work on the road and I'd just as soon leave that kind of serious surgery in the capable, experienced hands of the luthiers Robben does business with. In L.A. (Lawndale) we use Jim Foot at Musicworks. In 'the Valley' we use Toru (I can't remember his last name right off... starts with an 'N'). And up north we use Taku Sakashta. And, of course, Gene Baker does alot of that kind of stuff for us, too. _________________ B C-ing U!

Daved,
After the neck is shaved, do you have the neck refinished? |

I remember a performance at the Bottom Line in NYC where Robben was playing what appeared to be a very new cherry red Fender RF Signature model and the neck was completely raw: no finish, just exposed maple. I doubt this was its original condition. |

That was because the finish was "sticky" in Robben's words. There is a message from Robben that Daved posted here about that, and that guitar is currently owned by Bill Morgan who frequents this board. _________________ There are no such things as wrong notes, there's only the look on your face.

Exactly.
Thanx for following up on that info, Mr. Farmer. (I'm almost embaressed I couldn't remember Toru's last name. But then, I always call him by his first name.)
And yes, he does do great work. I know he also does some of Mike Cambell's (Tom Petty Band) work as I've run into Steve (Mike's tech) a couple of times in Toru's shop. _________________ B C-ing U!
