Here's my first round of photos from the Guitar Town show. The first day was freaking amazing!
Sonny Landreth was unbelievable! He totally blew me away, his slide playing is light-years away from all others, his stage presence, the whole vibe was incredible. Sonny, you have a new lifetime fan!!
Robben shows up with Roscoe Beck on bass and Hilary on Drums then jams with Eric Johnson! Did I die and go to heaven or what? Amazing to see Robben and Roscoe together again! Hilary, WOW, you look great!!!! And Daved you look great too! Lots more to talk about later...
The after all that... Lee Ritenour comes on with an all-star band and lights it up. He even did Captain Fingers! YES!
I have a lot more photos that I will post later this week..... and lot more to say about this event!
And... I have another day of shows - Larry Carlton, Eric Johnson and Buddy Guy!
Later!
Enjoy the photos!!!

Thanks for sharing, it's great for those of us unable to attend.
I've recently recharged my interest in Rit. After seeing bits of his new 2 disc video (of a live in studio concert) on his website, in which he does Captain Fingers, I had to have it in my collection.
I've always enjoyed his playing and compositions, since his first solo album.
I'm curious about who was in his band. |

Thanks for sharing, David. Great photos.
Do I see a couple of Twins and no Dumble?
I bet Robben the same way he does anyway.

Cap'n - great photos! Thanks for sharing. And glad you are a convert to Landreth - he is an amazing player.
One question - where was the usual bank of amps that EJ slogs around? Very strange to see him without a backline that resembles a music store!
Phil - tell me more about the Lee R dvd collection. I saw this the other day but was a little hesitant - been burned too many times. |

Here's the first band,
And here's an idea of how NOT crowded it was:
Finally, a view of Robben's band from our spot:
What a fabulous day of great musicians! Thank you so much Robben, Roscoe and Hilary for making the trek to the mountains of Colorado, we always love watching you tear it up for our appreciative eyes and ears! _________________ Work hard, play harder |

Would love to clarify what I can, don't know what would qualify as being burned under these circumstances.
I do own the DVDs, I'm A fan and was quite impressed. A nice in studio concert with tune selection Ritenour fans will enjoy. Top notch playing by all the heavyweights involved.
From the website: " ... 2 1/2 hours long with 19 songs covering his music from the 70's to the current. Musically, it covers 4 distinct areas starting out with acoustic jazz and moving into Brazilian music with Ivan Lins. The second half continues with Lee's early music from the fusion days ... Dave Grusin, Patrice Rushen, Anthony Jackson, Harvey Mason, Ernie Watts and Steve Foreman. The DVD concludes with many of his most popular songs from the 80's to 2004 ... "
Smoking performances by Dave Grusin, Patrice Rushen and especially (IMHO)Anthony Jackson.

Hi Phil - sorry to be so vague. By being burned I was suggesting that, IMHO, Lee R is capable of putting out some pretty lame stuff at times. I am not taking anything away from him as an artist, just that some of his releases are not my cup of tea. For example, I think his Wes tribute material is great, as is the CD he did with Larry Carlton, but Rit's House, one of his more recent CDs, does nothing for me. So, judging from the player list and the song selection the DVD looks like it has potential but one never knows for sure until the money has changed hands! I checked his website and there are some great pics of him in the studio cutting the DVD/CD. Check out the wall of amps he has stacked up!
Cap'n - great shot of RFs shoes, by the way! |
